I came to know that my CD ROM is not getting listed on explorer or anywhere.

Even a week ago I used it. It shows up in
start-programs-accessories-system tools-system information

It shows CD ROM in components, but nothing appears on the right hand side, when i click on it.

Any help appreciated.

Also when I hit apostrophe, it comes up è. So I know I have to do something with the software program to get it back on English. Does anybody know how to set my Dell keyboard back on English!!

it is a Compaq Presario laptop with Windows XP-Professional. Originally it had XP-Home but later i upgraded it. I want to erase everything that is there and reload all the programs. Basically, i need to return the laptop to what it was before i loaded my stuff on it.

Ok my son pulled half the keys off my laptop and I got them all back on except 8 on the very botttom row on each side of space bar...
The row goes FN __ __ __ __spacebar__ __ __ __ The keys I have are 2 alt keys, 2 windows keys, 1 ctrl key, 1 forward slash key,1 insert key, and 1 key with a rectangle with lines and arrow( not sure what its called, can someone help fill in the blanks? Also it's a gateway laptop that was bought 2 1/2 years ago and thats all I know

i just bought an amd 64 bit sempron 3000+ but it only reads 1.8 gHz. is it better than amd athlon xp 2600 that reads 2.13 gHz? how come when i search the amd website for 64 bit sempron, it only talks about athlon 64. can someone give me some info?

I am new to computers. My cd drive does not work becasue my system does not have a cd-rom driver. How to I get one (free) and how do I load it to the system?

I have a Canon MP190 All-In-One . Recently the screen shows that the waste ink tank is full. The price that the agent quoted for service and parts is more than 50% of the cost of the machine. Is it possible for me to empty the waste ink tank or do something because I do not want to throw away the printer.

May be someone can help.

Whats the best memory and speed for playing PC stratagy games.
I have 256 ram which i was told was muck.
I'm currently playing Age of Empires 3 Warchiefs and it's too slow + i can't play the campain because i don't have enough ram.

For instance, when I print out a google may and there are 20 steps to get me from point "a" to point"b", the printed page will be missing some of the steps in the directions--say step 6 and 8. Why is this happening and how can I fix it?

I am not techno savvy at all, but enjoy the challenge (!) I bought the laptop 2nd hand, and it came with the original 10 or 15 gig hard drive (tiny, I know.) What do I need to know to upgrade it? It has 256mb RAM, and that will need upgrading too, but first the hard drive, as I am down to the last few mb!!! Please share your knowledge with me, and please be nice, I am just a girl trying to learn.

Over the years Dell worked hard to build up a good international reputation.
Question: How could Dell par up with McAfee software provider and sell Dell Computers already installed with the same???
That provides buyers with nothing but problems, frustration...etc.
McAfee's Cust.Reps'. number is given as 1-800-269-6990 to be contacted for help. A young male voice rattling away on a disrespectfully high speed speech and provide the information to open web-site: “Dell.McAfeehelp.com”. Yahoo and Google search engines both responses that name (in diff. variations) “did not match any documents”.
I consider that as an insult from McAfee’s part. I am working regularly with PC since 1985 and associate my platforms with NORTON misc. anti-virus soft wares,
updated on yearly basis. Since that time I have had NO PROBLEM with Norton Products. Sad that Dell reputation will slide down with McAfee products. I certainly will not recommend again Dell Computer to any one else again.

Would a an upgrade from 256 MB of RAM to 768 MB be stable and would the 512 RAM be in conflict with the 256? Specifically would the 512 RAM be actually reduced to 256 RAM speed to match the other slot?

I'm currently seeking the best computer for gaming. I have a good choice in mind but I thought I'd first check with you all to see what your opinions are on the subject. I'd like a DELL XPS 700 Heavy Ordnance - High Performance Gaming Machine in Special Edition Formula Red or Jet Black, but there might be something even better. I'm not able to go above US$2000 so the DELL PC might be my best bet. Oh, and please don't suggest building a PC myself since I don't really have much experience in tinkering with the inside of computers besides upgrading hardware components and changing PC cases.
