In a day or so I'm about to purchase a cable lock for my new laptop that I'm going to use while I'm in university.

It'll give me some peace of mind knowing it'll be safe. But I would absolutely love having complete peace of mind instead.

Is a security cable lock (particularly the Kensington ones) really effective to keep my laptop safe?

I'd appreciate any input!

I would say that Sony is probably the most advanced electronics company in the world. Why? Because they are able to conceal the "Sony Timer" within most of their products and no matter how many of their products you take apart, you just would not be able to find out how this ingenious piece of technology works. So what on earth am I on about? Well the Sony Timer enables Sony's products to conveniently time out either when the warranty runs out or when Sony brings out a new line of that product. Now this is probably not common knowledge - a search for "Sony Timer" in English a while ago brought up no results - but have a look now on Google and Yahoo! (you get more useful results for this on Yahoo)You will start to realize the scary truth when you do a search for "Sony Timer" in Japanese on Google - 350,000 results! You can even find a full explanation of Sony timer in Wikipedia in Japanese and English.

And its not because I have a slow comp. I have a Pentium D processor with 2 gigs of RAM. Isn't a 16X burner suppose to burn at 16X the regular rate?

I'm thinking of upgrading my notebook's ram. But I don't know if I should get 1x1gb + current 1 existing piece of 256mb so that makes 1.25gb of ram for the macbook or 2x512mb which makes 1gb? Which is better? Does different amount of ram space affects the performance of the macbook?

I turn on my computer and everything is fine, but i hear a weird noise from my computer, its not loud, but different from usual. I think that its because of the dust, so i turn it off (windows and the computer itself)
I clean it all and even took the cpu fan off and cleaned that to.
When i finished i turned on my pc and it worked until windows began to load, then it shut down, but the Power button was still green, nothing happened when i pressed it. I turned it off from the back and moved some hardware. I did this a few time, nothing

Then i remembered that my cpu was a bit different from when i first bought it. I did not have the silver stuff on it now. So i remembered i got that when i bought the CPU, and put some around like i rememberd it. Now my computer works, but i dont know if for long since this is the first thing i did (ask this question)
Please tell me if i did it right and if i put enought of the coolent
Also, can you tell me more about how that works and why its required?

I'm trying to scan old black and white family photos that date back to the beginning of the last century. I have a Canonscan LIDE 500 F scanner that I don't really care for and I have Photoshop--the full-blown version-- but I don't think I'm computer literate enough to get the pictures properly touched up. I guess what I'm looking for is the best scanner that will be easy to understand. And is there a scanner whose software could do what I am having problems doing with PhotoShop? In other words, I'm probably taking on a job that I don't have the technical knowledge to do, but I want to do it myself.

^ here is a link to the mother board I am thinking of getting.

I don't know what other mother boards are I can get at the shop that is going to build my PC. I am going with 2GB 800MHz of standard ram no high performance ram.

I am not going to use any special hard drive things like Raid 0 or what ever its called. I'm also not going to overclock anything. The rest of the PC's hardware has not been 100% conformed either.

I know I am going to get the x1600 Pro video card or a card that is a little better. I got a nice real aluminium case to go with it.

Question one? I heard this mobo has a bad rap but then if its this troublesome why does the tech at the shop recommend it?

Question two? Whats the deal with that weird Orange tube that looks like liquid cooling on the board?

Question three? I'm going with dual AMD64 4200+
Processors where do they go on the board?

More info to come asap. probably 2 mins or so
