Our master P.C connects directly to the modem and a separate lan cable comes out to a switch which we use for other p.c's on the network, this has been working for months but recently our ISP had to reset the I.P on the master and the other slaves no longer work? We weren't using DNS, used different I.P's and the same subnet and gateways, nothing works, can't even ping the other PC's now either. Help!

here it goes: I live in rural central california (the valley). I live about three miles from the city (chowchilla), and about 2 miles from the phone company's main office in town. I have been very eager to have a DSL connection the last five years, and the city has been growing rapidly the past few years as well. Even about a year ago, SBC Pacific Bell (now ATT), had installed fiberoptic cables along my road (I live on a major county road). I have tryed checking availability for Att yahoo DSL via-online, but it always says its not avail. in my area. Although, when I check other broadband sites that check availability, it says DSL is available in my area. I'm thinking that since my number is out of the city (only about 2 miles), ATT just takes my number off the list (or has an old database). I'm going to finally call the phone company tomorrow, and see if I'm in the range for DSL. So FINALLY heres my question: Do you think DSL is in my area?? I have close to 10 machines in the house (powered by a windows 2k server), and using VPN, updates, etc. takes forever over dial-up....I need an update to my network soon! I cant stand Dial up any more!

I recently reformatted my computer. Once it got done, there was no LAN listed under my Network Connections - only my firewire cable. I downloaded the necessary drivers for my LAN card, went into the Device Manager to Update Driver, and it's not listed ANYWHERE. Not under Network Adapters, not under "Others". I can't find it anywhere. I reinstalled the Intel Chipset software, but still to no avail. It has no internet connection, but the lights on LAN do blink. It's an on-board LAN device. If someone can help me out, I'll have your children.

I've got 3 computers at my house. All 3 are using shared internet using one of the computers, which has a built-in ADSL modem. For that reason, this computer is on 24/7, since anybody at any time might want to use internet (as my bro, who goes to sleep at 2am, just as well as my dad, who goes to work early). My brother's computer is usually off when unused, and my dad's computer goes into standby mode automatically when left unused for a prolonged period of time. However, my computer is always on, and it's not only wastes power but also produces some noise, which I don't like. I'm planning to change some parts in it so that it'll be much quiter; however, the problem of power saving is still at hand. I'd like to let it go to standby, but can't because of the internet connection. So, how can I make my computer go to sleep while still keeping alive LAN and internet sharing?

I have a linksys wireless-g router, which has worked before.

i did reformat my computer but it connects to other networks no prob so i dont think thats the prob.

The thing is, I can connect wirelessly as an unsecured network.

But whenever I add any kind of security (wep,wpa,wpa2 etc) the connection is lost.

Someone please help!

If the live site is "http://www.domainname.com/subdirectory" how do you display "http://www.domainname.com" to the viewer's browser, hiding the fact they are in a subdirectory?

I am using Joomla for my content manager if that matters. Thanks in advance!
