My laptop is wireless connected to the internet but I would like to contact my desktop computer also, Any help would be welcome.

If the desktop is connected to the same router as the laptop then all you need to do is run the network connection wizard on both machines and then copy any files you want to share to My Shared documents

buy a USB wireless adaptor for your desktop, and it will be like your laptop, and will connect to the wireless network.

however, if you have a PCI card slot free, I'd use that and get a wireless PCI card, which are much more reliable than USB.

another way to to connect your desktop to the router with an ethernet cable, which is even more reliable than wireless.

if both them have wireless network card :
at both (laptop & desktop) wireless network connection --> properties -> in general tab click configure -> click advance tab -> at network type select ad-hoc .
then at one ofthem do asearch to fine the other one , also the ip address must be in the same range with same gateway, this is general steps , goodluck

you can use a Bloutooth as a wireless network card for your desktop,
