So im really planning on switching from Vista to XP. But there has to be some negative effects to doing so.

I heard you arent able to use DirectX10.

Are there any other negative outcomes from prolonged use of XP?

I had windows 98 in a laptop, i decided to upgrade to windows xp, ok, the instlallation was great no problem, i have an original cd with all the information they ask...after the instalation i went online and try to download avg, when avg restart the computer that's it, no more internet, i can not go online, it says page not found, but is every page, so there is something wrong, but the connection is fine, signal is fine, i have my own router and all the other computers in the house work, i tried calling my internet provider and they said that everything is fine, the only thing they can think is that i don't have all the drivers i need for the windows xp and he suggest to download the drivers, now i have internet cause a restore the system from when i finished the xp installation, and i tried to install avg again and the same thing happend again. can someone tell me if i have to download drivers or something or what should i do. I have a panasonic toughbook, thanks in advance.

I registered and paid $39.99 with Regcare.com and also downloaded the 90 day free trial of Windows onecare.com. But this Trojan virus won't shift. My pc is so slow because of it.

The dsl i can get is from the local telephone company and its way too much, i cant get a big company like qwest or at&t. Also the cable internet is practically Extortion. is there any other internet i can get?(besides dial up, i have no house phone)

i update mt ati video drivers and then keep getting the BSOD so i have to uninstall them, all my windows restore points have gone,i cant recover with norton ghost because it says i cant do it having norton back up with windows running so i have to do it in safe mode when i try and do that it says that norton ghost needs activation when it is activated anyway! complete virus and rootkit scans have revealed nothing, bought RegCure and fixed errors it told me i had and that has done nothing, i cant use winsock fix because that comes up with a windows error message something about a DLL file missing!

there is probably more that i cant think of right now but this is really hacking me off im just banging my head against a brick wall i cant seem to be able to do anything to fix what has happened!

can anyone help me please??

I did a speed test a couple seconds ago and it says my download speed is 1250 kb/s but whenever i download something the fastest speed it goes to is 160 kb/s. I took off the 20% bandwidth that microsoft takes but it stays at 160 kb/s. How can i improve my internet speed?

hi! i have tried to download aim express, trillian and many other chat messengers but for whatever reason it won't download them on my computer. Is there any special websites that will work? i have tried aim official website where you download aim express and it doenst work. All the 'offical' cites dont download. Is there another site i can use that might work?

It happened once about a month ago, it shut itself down. I restarted it, then turned it off and didn't think much more of it. Last weekend I was listening to music when everything on my desktop shut down and then the shut down screen came up. I thought it was odd that it told me it was shutting down. I tried restarting it but it just goes on and off, never to the point of fully restarting.
I opened the box and blew all the dust out, and I held down the power button to restart it and it's still having fits. I'm afraid that is the end of my computer expertise.
This computer is a Gateway pc and its 2 years old with Windows XP Home Edition. It hasn't been connected to the internet in about 8 months, but I do use a jump drive that has touched the internet. And I do have current Symantec Anti-virus software, current from 8 months ago.
So...help...please. Is this a simple fix, like maybe a stuck button or cable, or should I take it in...and where is a good place to take it?

Help!! Now everytime I start up my computer, it would shut down by itself and give me a blue screen. The blue screen would say something about "your computer has shut down to prevent it from any damage and if it is your first time seeing this restart comp. or do the following below". Theres a big long code and also, at the bottom it said something about "Memory dump, memory dump completed". I restarted it, but didnt help so I went into safe mode. I heard it was about bad RAM or harddrive? How can I fix this problem? I need my computer back asap!!
