Whenever I try to turn on my laptop it goes to the screen to choose a user once I choose a user it seems like its going to start up but is interrupted by a blue screen telling me there is a file that is not complete and will not start up the computer. Its an older Toshiba so it doesnt have a recovery disc installed in it but a friend told me I needed it for it to start up???? Is that my only option is a recovery disc?

Can you set those pages to private/friends only? How?

Can you prevent people that are not at your friends' list from finding you there? How?

Thank you for the help!

I walked in my office one morning and noticed that my screensaver (HP vs19b) was not on. I always leave it on, so immediately I checked the computer. Then I noticed that the power light on the lcd was not on. It's always either blue or orange. I tried pushing the power button several times, but nothing happened. Went through troubleshooting steps: Check cables, plug directly into wall socket, change power cable. Nothing worked. So, I went and got another monitor which works fine. I wanted to know if self repair was even an option. The monitor was great when it worked and gave no warning signs of quitting. I figured it's got to be something with the power suppy and I've been doing online searches but haven't come up with much. Any help and/or advice would be appreciated!

Is there a trick to getting a Brother MFC-7820N to do double sided printing? Just selecting to print on both sides in preferneces doesn't do anything! Is there a special way you have to feed in the paper or something?

Since the 80's I've watched as computers doubled quickly in power about every year and a half. Through the years, I began to base my buying habits on this trend, waiting for the price of technology to go down because of relative obsolescence before buying.

That being said, I bought a 2.4 Ghz computer in 2005 thinking this trend would continue. The current computers are 3.(something) + dual core and advances seem to be coming very slowly. Now I realize we've reached a kind of atomic impasse with transistors and are waiting for nanotechnology to improve.

I guess what I'm asking is this: Have there been any recent breakthroughs in nanotechnology or maybe super-conductivity that might get this apparent log jam out of the way?

Ok, I have two computers. Originally only one computer was wired to the wireless router and the other one was wireless. But the computer using the wireless was going really slow and disconnecting alot, so I connected it to the wireless router as well. So, can the internet provider tell that I have two computers hooked up to the same router/connection? The reason I am asking is that Our internet provider charged one of my friends for having two computers hooked up since the rate only covers one computer. I dont rememer exactly how she had it hooked up, but I know it wasnt through a wireless router. I just want to know do I need to go back to the wireless and do some troubleshooting or can I leave it the way it is and not worry about getting double charged?

I know we can monitor "Privates Bytes" and " Working Set" and all that, but i am just wondering if there a tool out there that we can attach to a process which will detect memory leak.

Thanks,

I'm working on a massive spreadsheet, and would like to have a couple of different Fill Bucket buttons, one to quickly shade a row green, another to quickly shade it as "no fill". But I don't believe it's possible to have multiple instances of a button in MS Office. Is it?

I'm running Office 2003.

Thanks,

I've been trying to fix a dead pc belonging to a friend. It gets to the screen with all the data on it and a flashing cursor in the bottom corner. I've tried booting up to cd-rom but it wont do that neither, was gonna try reinstalling windows.... I've tried cd-rom in another oc, it worked, i've tried the ram in another pc, it worked, i've tried putting hard-drive in another pc it didnt work, windows is corrupt. So I'm reinstalling windows at the mo then will try transferring it into the dead pc, see what happens. Do you reckon this will work? If not, do you have any other ideas I could try? I'm getting desperate here...lol

Thanks in advance XX

I want to network my computers at home to the computer in my office on the other side of town, so I can share and access the files between them. They are on different broadband ISPs and both use a wireless router.

I've looked up the networking section on Vista but it's too complicated. I think I need to be setting up a VPN network but I don't really know what this means, and it asks for IP addresses and other stuff I don't understand.

If it's possible for me to do this, and you can explain how in clear and non technical language, it would be much appreciated.

Cheers!
