Just unplug the internet when it his 10pm. If she plugs it back in then take the cord away entirely and go to sleep with it. Easiest way to do so.

You know even though you put a protection on your computer, most children end up figuring it out while the parents still think it's protected (survey done for this).
I think the best way is to start of by explaining to your daughter why you don't want her to be on so late. Even though she may not want to listen, she'll always know why because you told her. And she'll always remember that and maybe one day realize that you are right.
You can tell her that if she does go on the computer after curfew, that the next day you won't allow her to go on the computer at all.
And maybe if she's good for a whole week, that you can allow her to stay on a little later like..until 11pm on Friday or Saturday night.
I would also suggest that you pass by to see what she is doing on the computer (not necessarily sit down and watch her). There are so many unsafe things on the internet now a days.
GOodluck.

I usually give computer related advice but this is where you as a parent need to stand up and be a parent. If she does this, then she needs to be punished - plain and simple. I could tell you to take the power cable from the power supply away but the fact is she has no respect for you. Secondly, who the heck is your 12 year old daughter talking to online that late? You have serious problems if you don't really get to the bottom of this.

I think the easiest way for you to do it, is to set up an admin password that she doesn't know. You can leave it logged in before 10 but log off after 10. This way there is not plugging and unplugging of chords or moving of chords. And you can still use the computer after 10 if you need to.

Just go to Start > Control Panel > User Accounts > Change My Password

Get parental control software that allows you to schedule what time of day kids can get online. Just go to a store that sells the software (or look it up online), and read the fine print to see what it can do or ask someone knowledgeable about it.

The software should work for you no matter what kind of Internet connection you have, or what kind of hardware you use to get to the Net. You would probably also need to set your daughter with a limited-access account do she can't change the time on the computer clock, but the software should have information for you about how to do that.

Use parental controls that are offered thru your ISP...I think you may have to call your provider as some charge extra. There are also programs that block access and you control that as well. Look up net nanny. You might find it on google. Also, you might consider using a password to access the computer and then this way your child will have to ask you to enter the password each time she wants to use the computer.

There is no way with Windows itself to block such access. However there are several good programs available that you can use to block access by times, to certain websites, to only disable AIM, etc. Go to http://download.com and do a search for "parental control". You should find several that you can download and test (usually a 15 day trial) to see which offers the features you want before you purchase one.

i have vista but i'm sure it's very close. make sure your daughter is a standard user and you are admistrator. block your account with a password so she can't get in it and change the settings. go start control panel, parental controls click set time limits and select the time you want her off the computer. you and any other users can still use it after 10 though. i hope it is the same on xp pro and vista.

if you have broadband (cable, dsl, etc) and dont have a router, get one. most of them have a configuration menu that allows you to turn off the itnernet on a schedule.

also, if she is computer savvy, get a wireless router and wireless card for the PC. then move the internet box and router to a locked area, that way she cant get in and switch the cables around.

i dont reccomend pulling cables every night, as after a while they wear out, they werent meant for that kind of abuse. and you daughter will figure it out anyway. research the followign router manufacturers. i think my Belkin has this option, but i dont recall the model i use.

Why not simply move the computer into your room? Why not take AIM off the computer? Why not punish her when she does sneak back on?
