i have hard disk maxtor 160 g.b and when i need to install new os (windows xp sp2) i had to format the drive c during the installation of windows (quick with ntfs) but before that i had bachup my files to new folder at the last partition (it's size is 34 g.b) and after tha installation completed i ahd opened the backup folder but the surprise was very great: The folder is empty. but when i tried to find the size of all data on this partition it was 14.5 gb but when i opened the properties of the partition it told me that the used space is 21.6 g.b, so i think my data is still exist but i can't see it, can any one tell me what's happend and if it possible to restore my data how come to do that ???

The ppl that came and set it up did not write down the WEP code and it wasnt on the network, my laptop and the desktop in my room, weren't on the network, but thet family PC that has it set up on and the router plugged into it works fine, I can not connect to the Internet on my laptop and 2nd desktop... It's really annoying, it took those guys to come out 4 months just to set up what took them all of 10 minutes... I wasn't hear when they set it up, just my mom, and she didnt write the code down... What can I do?

Okay, so some time ago, I had a virus on my computer, and it took some time to delete it. It was a Trojan (shudder).
Anyway, so now the viruses are all gone, I haven't had even one come up on the last four scans.
UNFORTUNATELY, the virus wiped out a bunch of stuff before I could stop it. I can't get into my programs in my start menu, so no games are available (including the Sims 2, which I'm totally addicted to).
Anyway, so I'm wondering what steps I can take to restore my system. I can't get into the start menu to simply do a system restore, so that's out of the question.
If I used the Windows XP disc, would that wipe out everything I already had? Should I back-up my files to a disc? Smash my computer into bits with a baseball bat?
Eventually, this computer is going to be replaced, but I don't want to lose everything in the meantime. Please advise?

I really want to get a mac and although I'm very good with adapting to new computers I'm worried that I'll have trouble adapting to the software on a mac. If i upload that software and then find out that I hate it... can I change to windows? Will this be really expensive? Is it a stupid idea? i just really hate how hard it is to organize folders in a mac.

I have researched this quite a bit but the answers are somewhat elusive. No matter where I put the wireless router in our house, no matter which brand I buy, no matter how large the antennas are on the router, there are some places in the house that get very sporadic or low connections wirelessly. I have several mainstream wireless routers. Has anyone successfully enabled a connection between two routers to improve wireless reception? I also tried a range extender, and it worked, except that I ended up getting constant IP conflicts, plus the thing consistently lost its connection to the internet every night.

yesterday i put a new keyboard on moms cp, it didnt work, i rebooted and still nothing. I hooked the old one back up and nothing with that one, but i noticed while starting to plug it in the lights came on then went back off, so i plugged the new one back in and the same thing happened. while starting to plug it in there were lights then right back off. Ok is it driver related? and if so, how am i going to update that with no key board to type the web site. I was told that xp has a internal key board. Please help

hey, I'm a bank accountant and the laptop I have is for work that the company gives me. I have many important information and many online records and transactions. im going to get my computer fixed for its USB slots, and its monitor changed with also other security programs installed. I dont want the guy to look at my stuff, and I cant destory the hard drive as the bank wont allow a copy of the hard drive made.
I have the basic information stored on 2 16g flash disks and Is there anyway to delete the browsing history for the internet on my hard drive without deleting other programs? I also want free programs and Ccleaner doesnt work for me so please dont say ccleaner.... Uhhh remember FREE and to delete my browsing history because I can just delete the Notepad files and other programs as they are on my Flash disk, Please give me links to free programs to delete my browsing history Thanks

I want to get some quotes for a logo to be made for my website. Thing is I'm not sure what format to ask the logo to be produced in. I'm pretty sure it should be a gif file, but someone on a forum mentioned about vector format, I may want to use this logo on professionally printed material, do I need to ask for a gif for the website and vector format incase i need to send it to a printers?

Hi everyone, I have been using my laptop for quite a while(1 year) and my laptop starts to slow down 4 months ago. Now i am seriously irritated by it and i really feel like doing something to it now..
I check my task manager and realise that i have about 5 "IEXPLORE" and 1 "SVCHOST" that takes up most of the momory. Can i ask how do i reduce their comsumption or is there a way to keep the numbers down?
Also, i always have this feeling that my computer may be filled with virus even though i am using norton 360. Is there a better software out there that can assure me?
Lastly, is formatting good for me now? If so, is there anyway to transfer out my folders without getting any virus, if there's any in it.
