I'm pretty sure it should be a gif file, but someone on a forum mentioned about vector format, I may want to use this logo on professionally printed material, do I need to ask for a gif for the website and vector format incase i need to send it to a printers?

I would think 1st you may want to familiarize yourself with the different Formats and there use,
Don't just choose something out of the thin air to use because somone suggests it.
Tiff format is one that is used when one doesn't want to loose quality of a raw image. JPEG or .jpg is used by many developers because of the restrictions placed on the amount of size you are allowed overall on the server by your hosting service.
So as you see you can get some pretty high numbers depending on the Format and Resolution you choose to use.
Also remember it is easy to get confused. There are well over 15 different formats that are in use, and all can do basicly the same thing in some cases and in other cases can do and are used for different purposes.

You want a vector format for your files so you can make high-res versions as necessary, but a 72dpi Gif format for the web.

If you have photoshop or any other decent imaging program, you cna convert between them. Basically, you want to get the highest resolution or vector format avaiable as you can scale it down, but can't scale it up without loosing quality.

I have done countless logos.

The logo company should produce your logo in all the formats you would need without asking. Make sure you get it in EPS 300DPI for printers.

This will let you export it into any format without losing clarity.

You'll get a better looking website logo if you tweak it a bit and use a JPG.

As a professional webdeveloper I've always been trained to use GIF for speedy uploading and vector for high quality. You should Vector, ifr you wish to be able to resize the image without worry of it pixelating or if you want a high quality print alternative!
