for netgear you can try this.

Connect a laptop to the router (or desktop) whichever is closest via the cable (in ports 1-4).

Basically make sure its connected through the hard cable.

Then open your internet explorer and type in to the bar
one of these:

192.168.1.1
192.168.1.2
192.168.2.1

Hit enter after typing one in, if it doesn't work try the next until you see a LOGIN box appear.

For the login BOX you should enter "admin" for user name and "password" for password.

Note: The above username and pass is the default for netgear, if it does not work, that means your network hired guys changed it.

Once you have entered username and pass, you can click ok.
You will now be in the router settings.

Look for wireless, or wireless security, find the WEP (dont change anything) and you should be able to see the password in there. It will be encrypted like hjsbjhbdf. That is your WEP key. It should look something like this image

Hope that works.

Go here http://kbserver.netgear.com/kb_web_files/n100651.asp

Resetting the router isn't complicated. All the computers should be setup to use DHCP which the default unless you changed it.

In the router, when you enable WEP, use a 10-digit key that is a phone number that you can remember rather than a passphrase.

The 64-bit WEP key ends up as 10 hex digits, but the digits 0 to 9 are in the HEX range of 0 to F, so a number like 5165551212 may look like a phone number for information on Long Island, but it is also a fine WEP key.

Then whey you enable the wireless network on your laptpo, and connect to your wireless router, it will ask for a WEP key and just type in the 10 digit phone number you used for the WEP key.

Also, change the password to something you can remember, but at a minimum, change it from the default setting.

Hope this helps.

It is pretty straight forward.
the most important thing is get out the little yellow phamplet that came with the wireless Router.
Chances are they used the exact same security set up as the default one mentioned on the Phamplet, if not The Phamplet tells you how to change the user name and Password and it requies you RESET the Router to Factory Settings and then just follow the step by step in the phamplet.

You are going to need to contact netgear and see if they can reset your WEP key or if they have it in their database. I don't think there is any other way really.
