I bought a new laptop a couple of days back and tried connecting it to the router (Linksys). I entered the ip address of the router in the setup and now my wireless system does not work at all. (Previously I had another laptop working on the network without a problem. I ran the cd to configure the network on the 2nd laptop as I could not remember the password to the network). I bought another router hoping that the ip conflict would go away however that has not helped. Is there a way to reset the ip and fix this problem?

I recently bought a Dell PC and when I got it, it was dead. No amount of pressing or holding the on button at the front would switch it on.
So I log onto Dell and speak to an adviser via their rather good technical chat facility. I then receive a call from the tech support adviser who I assume was calling from India by her accent.
Anyway to cut a long story short she asked me to open up the PC unit with a screwdriver and talked me through checking inside. I have no PC hardware skills so most of what she advised me to do went over my head. In the end I put it back together and an engineer is coming to look at it tomorrow.
Was this risky?. It seems odd for someone at Dell to ask a novice to open up a PC. I had no idea what I was doing and could have caused all sorts of damage. Also if the power lead was still connected (she asked me to plug it in while the case was open to check if it was working) could I have been electrocuted?

I'm concerned and wondered what others thought.

Dont need inbound protection as im already behind a NAT. All i need is outbound protection that doesnt chew up heaps of resources unlike the full blown ZoneAlarm and similar highend software firewalls. Will windows firewall be enough for this? What do companies use to protect their client pcs?

It previously had 2x512MB @ 533MHz DDR2, of course...but as you may know, Vista with less than 2GB is awful.

So, I ordered 2x1GB of Kingston's Value RAM, and choose the 667MHz speed too, in the hope of faster performance too.

First it wouldn't boot.

Then it tried and then BSOD right before login.

But it worked a charm with 1x1GB, and 1x1GB + 1x512MB....

...which is how I left it.

So...memory was brand new, as was the computer.

I'm pretty sure it was Toshiba's cheapest new laptop available. 1.6GHz dual core, on board graphics, cheap plastic feel, loud fan, etc.

Any ideas here? Surely it should have taken 2GB....

Oh, and there was NOTHING in the BIOS to offer-up any help either.

Thanks in advance for your answers.
