i installed a windows xp and it hangs on the part stating "applying settings". but if i install a redhat linux its fine, the computer doesn't hang

Reinstall Windows using the correct and up to date drivers for all motherboard systems like IDE controllers etc.
Same goes for the other 4 times you asked same question in the space of about 5 minutes.

XP must be installed before Red Hat. If that's how you did it, re-post and explain exactly when this "hang" happens.
Is it during the installation, or after when you try to start XP? Have you tried to boot in "Safe Mode"? Recovery disk or store-bought XP? Make & Model of PC? ETC...

Install the drivers that have been included in the cd when you bought your computer. Because you didnt install drivers, windows xp provides generic ones that lags your system.
