To share internet connection you must first create a Adhoc network where you and your friend will be members of it.(You do not need wireless router to setup adhoc network)
Then you open your ethrnet network connecion properties -advanced,select or enable internet connection sharing and selct your wireless adapter. Then ask your friend to reboot the computer. He must me able to access internet.
check the following links:

It just takes little time to configure initially but its a cost effective solution for you. I did implement this couple of times and it works like a charm ;)

The wireless adapter is designed to connect to a wireless access point. Unless you have a wireless access point or router than the only you can share the connection is to set up a wired network through the use of a switch and Ethernet cables.

No, you'll need to buy a router. A built in wireless adapter only allows you to receive network signals from a router, not send them out. A router will cost you anywhere from 30-40$ at your local electronics store (or someplace like Target). You'll then plug the Ethernet cable into the router, and through your built in wireless adapter you'll be able to get the internet signal on your computer and your friends laptop (providing that they have a wireless adapter as well).
Hope that Helps!

Perhaps you could use ad hoc networking with an ethernet cable? Assuming both laptops have ethernet ports, all you'd need is a crossover ethernet cable (a crossover ethernet cable is like a normal ethernet cable but the wires inside are reversed to let two computers connect directly, instead of through an ethernet hub or router). Another option would be MAC spoofing. This involves using software tools to send out a different MAC address than the one your device really has - this way the second laptop could pretend to have the MAC address of the first. However it's probably against whatever terms of service are requiring your device to be MAC-authenticated on your network, so I would advise against it.

You can but it can somtimes be a pain in the butt to set up and get to work if you are not very techie.
Your best bet is a Wireless Router for under $50.00 then your problems are over.

sure, if your friend also has wireless capability. just share your wired ethernet (i think it is in the network settings on windows) and configure your wireless to ad hoc instead of infrastracture.
