i went and unchecked everything that shares my files and downloads on limewire. i found it in the options menu. does that make downloading music now legal? because i heard somewhere that if you don't share the files then its not illegal and its only illegal for the person puting them on limewire

Fraid not. It is a breach of copyright to DOWNLOAD them OR to share for others to get from you.

Simpelest and shortest answer NO NO AND NO, LIMEWIRE IS ILLEGAL NO MATTER HOW YOU LOOK AT IT, UNLESS SOMEONE PUTS A FILE UP THERE THAT HE INTENDS ON SHARING WHICH HE OWNS THE COPYRIGHT LAWS TO, in most cases about 95% its illegal.

No you are still downloading music for free. That is illegal. It is just more illegal if you share them also.

It takes two to tango. Sharing out files itself does not constitute a crime. The downloading of copyrighted material is the crime and then both parties are culpable.

No, what you do is still illegal. But if you going to download, leave the settings as they are. It makes everything faster.
