hi i have a update that downloads from microsoft windows it's called malicious software remover tool it comes from my automatic updates does it run itself or do i need to do something to make it run i dont see an icon for it anywhere and how will i know if it's working ??

no i dont use windows defender anymore cause the last time i used it it messed up my computer and i had to put it in the shop the antivirus software i'm using is trend micro antivirus i tried defender pro 5 in 1 (2007 version) but i caught a virus whils using it so my computer tech decided to try trend micro on my computer (2005 version)

It will run itself, usually after you reboot. It just does a quick scan of your computer for the more major malware. See the webpage below from Microsoft to see what it scans for.

Yes, it runs automatically on first re-boot, and it would have been nice if Microsoft let you see what it found. Google for more details.

Do you have Windows Defender? It should show you the state of your PC, though it's not using the malicious software remover tool.
