i have hard disk maxtor 160 g.b and when i need to install new os (windows xp sp2) i had to format the drive c during the installation of windows (quick with ntfs) but before that i had bachup my files to new folder at the last partition (it's size is 34 g.b) and after tha installation completed i ahd opened the backup folder but the surprise was very great: The folder is empty. but when i tried to find the size of all data on this partition it was 14.5 gb but when i opened the properties of the partition it told me that the used space is 21.6 g.b, so i think my data is still exist but i can't see it, can any one tell me what's happend and if it possible to restore my data how come to do that ???
Thank You

That is strange. If you copied to a completely different partition, it should have a different drive letter and be visible... Hopefully you didn't create the backup folder on the same partition that you installed to?

I would run disk manager and see how many partitions exist- maybe you're looking at a different one. You might also try connecting this drive as a secondary drive to another computer, and see what's visible.
