Only for exprerienced PC repair people:
My computer locks up and the screen goes blank 5 minutes after booting EVERY time. Here's what it's not:
1) I know it is not RAM. I have singled out every stick and ran extensive memory tests. No change in results.
2) It is not software or hard drive. I have booted to a linux bootable CD (hard drive unplugged) and it still locked up 5 minutes after boot.
3) It is not the video card. I have swapped video cards to find the same result.

All fans are running fine; I do not believe it is a heat issue. I do not have another power supply with me, but would that cause the computer to lock up at the exact same time every time? Processor and Motherboard are fairly new - all POST tests look fine with them. I'm running out of parts to swap. Has anyone seen anything exactly like this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. i just baught a Emachine computer and i downloaded world of warcraft to it the Emachine had windows vista already on it and when i got done downloading it it was laggy and it said there was something wrong with the display driver. i found out blizzard has a patch for it(which may be false) but i tryed to download it again and it said Couldnt Decompress ogg data. i dont kno wat it is i kno its not my hard drive cause the computer is new. would it be windows vista? and i was wondering if i took my computer to a computer repair shop could they download world of warcraft there? plz give me some answers

I'll be watching a video and then in about five minutes the video will freeze along with the computer. For some reason streaming a video uses 100% CPU usage... I have a gig of RAM and I know it's not buffer related because the whole video buffers in about a minute. Any suggestions please?

I've been visiting my parents these next few weeks, and I was wondering why their internet keeps craping out. It's cable from cebridge, broadband, not that fast but its about 256kb download and upload. What has been bothering me though, recently, is the modem works great for a few minutes, then craps out and goes INCREDIBLY SLOW... about dial-up speed. It then goes back to normal and repeats the process. I was just wondering if the problem would be the modem or the ISP, doubtful its the OS. It didnt do this last time i was here, which was about a year ago, they still have the same modem. Last year they called me and asked, they had an old 2002 Windows XP system, I figured they needed a computer upgrade. They got a shiny new Dell Dimension E520. I came over to set it up for them and visit them of course. The problem still persists. Is it the ISP? Is it the modem? Do I need to call the ISP and have them replace the modem? I'd rather consult the people here, rather than call. Please help.

I'm leaving for college, and I'm giving my mom my laptop. Is there any easy way to just delet EVERYTHING off of it?

If you get something that you absolutely KNOW is spam, and probably has all kinds of bad things, waiting to kill your computer, is there any way to get a program where you can open it, read it, then delete it? without any danger. What would be nicer; send it BACK to where it came from and screw up THEIR computer.

I am restoring the computer at work and i can preety much get myself around with anything on a computer but i am stumped the product code that came with the cd didnt work does any one know of any way of code to put in its a 25 digit code and its numbers and letters but does any one have like a master code for all of them of any way to hack in and by pass that and still get windows the trouble is that i have to have it by tommorow oh and whom ever can get this answered for me will get 100 best answer points cause i will post whats up 10 times and you can respond and ill pick you for a best answer every time thanks.

I went on the computer today, and the coloring is bright green~~ blue colors are now orange~~ even the colors on Y!A are weird! I already tried to change the screen brightness with no effect. And the weird light coming from it is making my eyes feel funny. Can anybody please help? And fast?

I downloaded a virus control and a photo program.
After this my computer slowed down by 50%.
If I add more ram will this speed my computer back up to where it originally was or better

I currently have 256 MB of Ram
Im adding 512 MB of Ram
That will give me 768 MB of Ram

Will this help or am I just wasting my money

i've posted a question like this before, but never got an answer that worked. Whenever i go into the photoshop cs3 setup, it says i must close down internet explorer to continue, when i don't have it open. I've tried going into task manager and looking for iexplorer.exe, and wasn't there, i tried msconfig and making sure nothing opened on start up and i shut down the computer and turned it on and tried the setup again, didn't work, i tried disabling the internet connection in network connections, that didn't work either. Can someone please help me! Thanks

I work for a small county, and recently received a promotion to run the road department's sign shop. It's the first job that I've had where I have my own computer at work. When I first got the job, the county I.T. guy called me so he could fix some files in one of my programs. I gave him my IP address and he accessed my computer. I watched him open files and do his work.....all from a desk a few miles away.
My question is: Can they access my computer, without my knowledge, and see what I'm doing? I'm not checking out porn, or anything, but when work is slow, I might check out my fantasy football teams, or check out utube, or something. I always delete my temp files, and cookies when I log off, but can they spy on me when I'm actively using the computer?

I have Windows Vista Home Premium, with an Intel Pentium dual processor T2130 @1.83GHz 533 Mhz FSB. I do not do anything high end on this laptop an have a 160GB hard drive on this lap top on a Toshiba P205-S6307. I have the capacity to take it to 4 GB, but i don't feel it would be worth the money to go that far out for what I am using this unit for at all.

Everytime I open, another browser appears and says that my computer is greatly compromised as all information are being sent to a private computer....and that I should download the WinAntiProvirus 2007 program it is offering for free. Is this program legit or is it a virus itself? Can someone help me with this? Thanks.
