Everytime I open, another browser appears and says that my computer is greatly compromised as all information are being sent to a private computer....and that I should download the WinAntiProvirus 2007 program it is offering for free. Is this program legit or is it a virus itself? Can someone help me with this? Thanks.

WinAntiVirusPro is a rogue product. If you are getting pop-ups, you probably have already been infected with malware. You can follow the steps below.

Firstly update and run your anti-virus product. You can also run a free online scan as well as some malware can actually corrupt or disable your resident security products. Here are a few online scans you can run:
Trend - http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
Panda - http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/ActiveScan.htm
Norton - http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/default.asp?langid=ie&venid=sym

Second download, update and run scans using the following products:
SuperAntispyware
http://superantispyware.com/
Spybot S&D (free version requires manual updating)
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/
AVG AntiSpyware
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/20/lng/us/tpl/v5
Adaware from Lavasoft (free version requires automatic updating)
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php

(These programs can be run in Safe Mode after downloading and updating)

Third, after cleaning your system, disable System Restore, reboot and re-enable System Restore when you log back on. This will clear the malware that may still be lurking in System Restore, which could be reinstalled should you need to rollback at some point. Additionally, a reboot may be required to complete the malware removal process.

Lastly, you may also want to install the following tool. It is free and requires you to check for and enable updates manually once a week or so. It uses no system resources.
SpywareBlaster (inoculates, not a spyware removal tool)

================================
If you cannot get it removed after the above, you may want to join a tech group that specializes in providing manual instructions on malware eradication.

You have a Malware.. It is a hidden software which resides in your computer and can send potentially critical information (about you) stored in your computer to some external computer, without your knowledge.

This makes it all the more dangerous. There are tools which can detect such malware and remove them from your system.

I use a popular Malware removal tool called Ad-Aware. Try searching Yahoo site for this tool, you'll get the relevant download link.

With this tool, you can schedule the clean-up operation to say once every week. When your computer is on, it will automatically initiate and clean your computer of all such malware.

I had the same problem myself and the link is just a bogus ad. This is triggered by a small piece of software stored somewhere within the registry or Internet temp file thats triggered to pop open the link when you go to certain sites (like your email). Download a legit virus scanner, along with a malware/spyware cleaner to rid yourself of this problem...

Virus Scanners: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/us/frt/0 or this online scanner: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Malware / Spyware cleaner: http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-2007-Free/3000-8022_4-10045910.html?part=dl-ad-aware&subj=dl&tag=top5 from Adaware.com
