I hear the term "videos gone viral." What exactly does that mean? I realize it's something about being on the Internet, but does anyone know where the term came from and what it means exactly?

A viral video is one that becomes popular and/or spreads over the internet extremely fast.

Some examples of viral videos:

Peanut Butter Jelly Time/dancing banana
The evolution of dance
Dramatic prairie dog/chipmunk
Etc

:)

The literal meaning of the word "viral" comes from the word "virus"--something (like an infection) that spreads quickly and among many species.

When a video goes viral, it means that it reaches a large amount of people in a short amount of time. Over the years, the term has been generalized to mean that a video has a large audience OR a short time frame (with a smaller, though still sizable, audience). In other words, a video that reaches 80,000 people in one hour can be considered just as viral as a video with 150 million people in two years.

There are tons of tips for creating viral videos, but here is one article I found to be helpful: https://valoso.com/blog/creating-viral-video-titles/

Hope this answers your question!
