I checked from my ISP and there is no outage, so I should be able to connect. What are the basic steps that I need to check?

Can anybody provide me with simple instructions for making my computer connect automatically to the internet when my computer starts up? I have Windows XP, and a high speed connection via modem. Is it just a matter of dragging and dropping my internet connection program icon to the Startup folder? Or does it get more complicated? I would prefer not to mess around with msconfig.

Can I ad an internal backup drive and later put it in an enclosure and use it on other computers without loosing all the data on it? I have read that most of the ready made external drives have pretty lame software on them.

This is for the computer science major. I'm doing this survey to see if computer science is right for me. My opinion and knowledge on computer science: I would say that although I have struggle with programming, I would find the first two courses(programming, not logic) in computer science easy, but after that it gets very difficult and confusing. So far I had to repeat one course, and thus far if I repeat the course the second time around, then I would pass easily. Why is it that it's so hard the first time? How many of you find computer science difficult? I love programming because I want to get into the gaming industry when I graduate, but so far, as I advance in my curriculum, it gets much more difficult. Does it ever get easier? Personally I find the logic part of programming very easy, it's putting the logic into codes that's difficult. How many of you had to retake a course or maybe more to finally pass? Are there any cs major that graduate with great difficulty?

And when i resume, the MS word application freezes and I lose my work? Can anyone give any advice. Can i leave Word application open during stand-by? is this causing the freeze?

Need to install on a machine using dial-up where the ISP disconnects or drops the connection and cannot complete the auto-online process. For a relative of mine. I would like to be able to only download the setup application file and dump on to CD or USB key.

ok, i extract the rar file, which gives me a video file, and a bunch of other stuff(.R01 and stuff). now, can somebody IN SIMPLE ENGLISH please explain to me how i can burn this video file to a dvd (with a dvd burner). I see the video when i open the video file, but i cannot seem to burn it to a dvd.

I need to combine several cells of data into one cell which will be exported to MS Excel from MS Access. The problem posed is there can be an unknown amount of cells to be combined from the MS Access data. Is there a way to run a script to combine the data into one cell before it is exported to Excel?

when i try to put a picture or anything for my background, i cant select anything from the appearance menu in the control panel. the box is "greyed out" and i can't scroll and select. i can only choose a solid color for my background. when i shut down, i see the picture i select as background, but it never will be displayed during normal computer activity. i've tried everything i can think of to fix this weird problem...
any suggestions????? thanks!!! p.s. i'm running xp home ed. on a year old toshiba satellite laptop.
