You may need to clean out your pc. Go to start click on control panel, click on add/remove and remove programs you no longer use. Then go to Search click on accesssories and then on system tools, then click on defrag. after doing that go back and do clean up. You may have too many items in temporary files, go to start, search, click on files and programs type in Temporary Files and then Temp. When these come up click on edit, selectall and then go to files and delete. You will not lose any thing you need. and you can always add a program back in. Good Luck Hope this helps you.

Not knowing what kind of computer you have. Some computers have a "Cool n Quiet" mode that slow down the system, but still give performance-on-demand.

When you are ready to buy a new system, go to www.stupidcheapcomputers.net. I buy all of my stuff from them.

I bought a complete, new system from them with a warranty for LESS than it would cost me to build it myself or order a custom one from the manufacturer. You can use my frequent buyer code: ATX926. That will get an additional 10% discount at checkout.

I have NEVER had any problems with anything that they have sold me and their customer service is outstanding. Those guys blow my mind.

Good luck!

Better scan you machine for spyware or viruses. Turn indexing off if you can by going to c drive, right click on properties and turn indexing off. Defrag your HD as well, sometimes that might help. If worse comes to worse, you might even want to create a new account and place shortcuts to familair programs. Talking about programs, you should uninstall applications you do not use often.

assuming it was fast in the first place.

usualy it's spyware or maleware.
sometimes it's a virus.
maybe you've added software recently
maybe norton antivirus is bogging you down.
maybe your hard drive is full
maybe your hard drive needs defragmented.
maybe you need to clean your drive (*.tmp files)
maybe your hard drive is starting to go bad (bad sectors) (look for a "S.M.A.R.T." utility program (like hddhealth)
maybe a memory chip is starting to fail.
maybe your games are just starting to outgrow your hardware.
maybe a hard drive cable is failing and you're getting communication errors between your systemboard and your hard drive slowing down the whole read/write process.

is this a good start?

you've either got a virus, spyware or adware on there. First, do a disk clean up, then go to http://www.lavasoft.com and download their personal version. Do a scan and delete what it finds. Then do a virus scan. Then run your defragmenter. That should help alot.

I suppose you are using Internet Explorer on Windows XP. Is this correct?

Try running a spyware scan from spybot search and destroy. (google for link).

Then switch to Firefox (getfirefox.com) to help prevent spyware. It is a free internet browser that is much better than Internet Explorer.

It will help to prevent spyware due the fact that it is less vularnable to attacks than Microsoft's browser.

did you recently install anything? do a virus check. also right click your task bar and go to task manager and processes. see if ther'es anything taking up a lot of processing power there. (make sure you don't delete anything there unless you know what it is)
