I want to buy a laptop for my boyfriend but have no idea where to start. I'd like to stay below £500. It would be used for mainly surfing the net and emailing. Any recommendations / help / info / ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I have a hard drive with some very expensive software on it that I don't have anymore, the harddrive came out of a Dell pc and i'm trying to install it in my Gateway pc as a slave. Both pc's were running on the Windows XP system. I was told that Windows XP wouldn't allow me to interchange harddrives. If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

I took it to a local computer shop and the tech installed it as a slave but didn't open it up to see if it worked, luckily I opened it before I left his shop and it wouldn't work so he told me to give him a few days with it. Everytime I call he says he 's working on it, or he trying something new. I never dealt with this guy before, so I'm coming to you for your expertise,Thanks

Checked for virus and spyware more than 10 times, using LAN port with a 256 ADSL , my sent packets are way more than recieved , since my internet connection is slow , my provider tells me that something is wrong with my PC, my firewalls don't show anything unsual (Zonealarm, AVG firewall ) . I think there must be something wrong with my PC, can you help me ?

Have you AdAwareSE Personal? If yes, you may have noticed that there has been practically no update components since 19th September even though I manually check for them everyday! Including today, its 11 days!! 11 days means atleast some hundreds of new spyware and adware. Why is Lavasoft so dormant? Is there any technical problem? I have other antispyware but it is the most trusted one, and not without reason.

I have dial up that is extremely slow, but I need an anti virus program. I have heard that some of these free ones are great. But, I do not want to be online for days downloading it. Can I download it in peices? a little at a time. And I need to be protected while I am online doing it can I leave the antivirus that is on my computer on there while I am downloading another one?

What do I have to write in the field for incoming mail server, if I want to operate my yahoo account with mac OSX mail application. NOTE: pop.mail.yahoo.com doesn't work.

I have gotten a new laptop from dell. an inspiron 1300. I was wondering if there is anyway to change the touch pad, so that when I tap it, it acts as a left click. ??
