HP cartridges have a date encoded into them, so if the printer thinks the cartridge is "too old" then the printer will display a message that the cartridge(s) need to be replaced, even if they're full or nearly so.

I don't believe there's an actual ink quality issue with ink cartridges that are "too old." I think its just a sneaky way to sell more ink. You should be able to work around the error message by changing the date on your printer, just put it back 2 years. Hope this helps!

There is a small application that will reset your print cartridges.
Try using google with 'Printer name and model cartridge reset'
I did it for my dads printer.

If you only put them in recently they should feel full?? Some how I think I'm missing the point of the question, or is that the point, that there is no point??
