My CD/DVD Burner keeps failing anywhere between 25% and 50% through burns. I have downloaded the latest firmware. Is there any other software or tweaks I can do to burn successfully?

My Specs:
Dell Dimension 4300S
Sony 700MB CDR
HP DVD Writer 840B
Windows XP

If I were to put a CD into a micromave, what would happen? would it lose all the data, mess up the micro, nothing? I'm just wondering casue I have nothing better to ask.

I have only one USB 2.0 on my computer. I have 8 USB; the rest are 1.0. How can I tell which one is 2.0? Device manager says it is located here: PCI bus 0, device 29, function 7. I need it for faster exchange with my external hard drive.

I needed to convert an swf file to mpg and downloaded flashon, I think it was called. After trying to export the movie with it, which was inside a folder deep in my documents.. the entire contents of my documents folder is empty, and I had some very valuable files I need. Is there any way to find out what happened, undo it, or restore my files?

Hi, I hope anyone can help me with this. I tried logging into Windows Live Messenger today. At first it didnt work. It aksed me to download a newer version of Windows Live Messenger Beta even though its new. I then removed Windows Live Messenger from my computer and then downloaded it again. After I clicked on RUN it gave me this message:

Extracting File Failed. Its most likely caused by low memory (low disk space for swapping file) or corrupted cabinet file.

Ive tried in vain to download Windows Live Messenger again and again and again but each time it gave me the same message.
Could it be that I have viruses on my computer ? If I format my computer will I loose my MSN (Windows Live Messenger) contacts ? PLEASE HELP ! ! !

Nothing to add. It just plain won't turn on. It's only about 4 years old. It did give a message before my mother-law shut it down. Something about a power cord or something about power.

Hey...my CD with my new MB says to go on the internet and download info for BIOS reconfiguring...which I have never done.
Question is...once I go on to the internet, should I throw up a quick firewall...and are there any other pitfalls I am not seeing?...Flying blind, though doing everything in safe mode. Am I right to assume I need to update all the new drivers, do various diagnostics, go through all the Windows updates? Now that I have Windows open, any important mistakes I need to not make?

1)when you are in the middle of a application such as yahoo 360 and a message saying"windows will have to close down this application,sorry for the inconvenience"within a small window,why do these appear,ive only had about 2 ,one while using a game and one with something else i cant remember
why do i get these ,and where can i read the report explaining the reason for the message
2) on the error check which you can schedule on boot-up,unlike fat32 which i could understand,what does the ntfs scan mean,it runs 3 checks,what does each one mean as it would help me understand windows more

Hi- I have created a web site with a keyword rich domain name. However, it has no hyphens in it (lets call it mywebsite.com). I have since bought the hyphenated version of the domain name (my-web-site.com) and would like some strategic advice.

I have a PPC campaign with my first domain name through Yahoo and Google, and several sites already link to it. I really don't like the hyphenated version of the domain name because I think it looks low class. Any ideas what I can do with it to optimize search placement?
