I needed to convert an swf file to mpg and downloaded flashon, I think it was called. After trying to export the movie with it, which was inside a folder deep in my documents.. the entire contents of my documents folder is empty, and I had some very valuable files I need. Is there any way to find out what happened, undo it, or restore my files?

Generally unless you're heavily computer savvy, an external program is your best way to go. There are several freeware and shareware programs for this purpose available out there.

Here are a few links to such programs:

Check the recycle bin and if your files are discovered, u click on the file and press restore. This only works if u accidentally deleted them which you did not mention, so other than that, I have no clue what you could do.

Do a search on google for restore deleted files. There will be many websites that have both instructions and programs to aid you in this.

Yes, check the recycle bin, or if their not there, click 'start' then search, and search your hard drive for it. If not successful, do Microsoft System Restore *(Windows ME and newer) You may not get it that way.

That's what happens with viruses! Sometimes they attach themselves to system files, so that deleting them renders you PC unusable. If you have your installation/recovery CDs you can run them (by inserting the CD in the CD drive and booting from it) and see if you can do a "system repair".

Your best bet is to use System Restore, it should work.

Most OS
-Start-Programs-Accessories-System Tools- System Restore

(XP may not need to go into Accessories)
