do we have to put up with all this crap about old british bikes having character? I want a bike to be solid, reliable, have good brakes and tyres to match handle with predictable prescision not break down every other lampost and drop oil like the exxon valdez on a bad day, go fast not have to treat it with kid gloves in case it breaks on the roadside.. a lot of you will say I just don't get it... really I don't want it...ok?

My father has partioned off 5 acres of his land for me and my nephews to build a atv/mx park. The land is flat farming land. We have a brand new tractor with a front loader, and various scrapers. Any suggestions or web sites that you can point me to. We are not expert riders but we would like to have jumps, mud pits, and other obstacles.

I absolutely LOVE motorcycles. I just don't know anything about them, except that some look awesome and some don't. Would someobody tell me what are some important features or facts or things I should know say if I wanted to buy one? or just in General, what is important to know about motorcycles? I am especially interested in racing/sport motorcycles like the honda and yamaha models. Or guide me to a webpage. I want to ask all the stupid questions about motorcycles, the problem is I don't even know what they are.

With the price of gas as bad as it is and not likely to get better in the long run, I'm considering learning to ride and using a bike as my primary commuting vehicle, at least in good weather (I live in the Denver area). My commute is about 25 miles, one way, and generally takes about 30-40 minutes, mostly on highways, part of it rated at 75 mph. I've never ridden a bike as an adult but did ride a dirt bike a couple of times as a kid, and (don't laugh) had a moped in high school. I'm 44 years old and a pretty big guy, 6'1" and 240 lb, 31" inseam. I doubt I'm going to be intimidated by a fairly big bike, so am thinking about a cruiser in the 500cc-750cc range as a first bike. I'm wondering what kind of features I should be looking for and which brands/models I should be looking at. Also want something that won't require a lot of maintenance - the whole idea is to stay inexpensive. Don't really want a sport bike, either - I don't want to ride bent over. Thanks for your suggestions...

Which would you go for? The origional iconic bike that defined an era of cafe racers in the late '60s and early '70s. The sort of bikes owned by the "rockers" in Quadrophenia. Lots of character that came with oil leaks and breakdowns, but also prestige and pride of ownership. Or the "modern classic" retro? Comes with all the reliability and ruggedness of a modern motorcycle, but somehow (despite the fact it looks very similar) lacks the character and rider/machine bond the origional created?
So Origional or modern replica?
At least both are British designed and built!
