I had a bit of an oil spill of used motor oil in my passenger side of my car. It seeped into the floor under the carpet and I was able to absorb most all of the oil. Will the left over oil on the carpet and on the floor be toxic in terms of fumes? I was thinking maybe on a hot day the oil will heat up inside the car with closed windows and cause some hazerdous fumes etc.

I have an 87 Jeep Wrang 4.2L straight 6...I just rebuilt the motor (less than 100 miles on the new one) I replaced the alternator, starter, valve cover, distributor, cap, plugs, wires, rebuilt the motor(twice, the first time a valve seat didn't take and disintigrated in the motor, taking out 2 pistons with it) I went through 3 carburators until I found one that was rebuilt correctly. I also had to replace my flywheel and harmonic balancer. So far with the cost of the vehicle and repairs, I have spent over 10Kon this Jeep and I think I am past the point of no return as far as selling. Therefore, fixing it is my only option. Does anyone know what it wouldn't start, is it due tothe cold or is there another mechanical issue (s) I am overlooking? I really need some help with this thing. I just got done yesterday and took it for a drive and she ran great. I let her sit overnight (it was cold) and this morning I try to start and it won't. I give it gas and let it crank and nothin HELP

My '97 VW Passat Wagon has broken its flywheel twice. The first time was prior to me owning the car. It was replaced by Aamco Transmission (Toledo branch) back in June. I purchased the car in mid-July.
Six months later the car developes a noise (like a fan blade hitting a metal object). I take the car back and a few days later I'm told the flywheel is cracked.
How is this possible? Shouldn't a flywheel never break within the life of a car?

The new battery is not turning over at all. I thought I may have bought a bad battery, but just got it checked and it has enough power. My alternator was checked when I got old battery checked, so I know it's not that. Any quick fixes I could look at under the hood before getting it towed? All connections look good to me, but I'm not exactly a mechanic.

the fuel pump needs to be replaced is there an alternative way to fix it like attaching an inexpensive electric pump somewhere on the line instead of removing the tank and replacing the pump ?
the cost of a new pump for that little crap car is 500.00 installed.

My car broke down on the way home. I paid a mechanic $1,000 for a new clutch on my 98 pontiac grand am. 200 miles after I left his shop the heater stopped, check engine light came on, and temp gauge shot skyward. I stopped the car and opened the hood, smoke came pouring out, and sitting there next to my coolant tank is the cap. Right beside the open hole. According to the Pontiac dealer I rolled the car too leaving the cap off caused the head of the engine to warp and my car is shooting exaust out the radiator and coolant out the exaust pipe. As well the dealer said 98 grand am's only have one coolant cap not two like most cars.

When my heater is on, my car makes a high pitched squealing. The noise is louder when driving slower, then goes away after I go faster. After driving for a few minutes, the noise goes away after it's warmed up. There's no noise when my heater is off. I'm guessing it has something to do with a fan.

I have just started a new 283 chev engine and run in the cam.The engine has a mild cam and ported heads etc and runs a 650 holley carb.I have been playing with the jets in the carb and they seem to be ok at first on idle and then after the engine comes up to temp 170 f the right exhaust starts to puff a bit of black smoke. ( the left exhaust pipe is fine ). Can anybody shed some light and could you also let me know what the timing and plugs should be.I'm prity sure the plugs and timing is ok but I thought i'd check.
Unfortunately the hotrod ( 32 Ford ) is not licenced yet so driving it on the road is out of the question for now.

I am restoring my 1971 Plymouth Duster. It's not a muscle car -- it's a slant-6 -- but it's cool. Lots of trunk space, places to hide beer (I've had the car since I was 16), you can sneak four people into a drive-in in the trunk. Some people think I'm stupid for spending $7,000 on a car like this, but new cars are way more expensive, impossible to repair and not very safe. What do you think and will I be able to get any chick I want with my restored Duster?

This is an actual picture of my car:
