I will say dont listen to the first reply, you dont just go and throw parts at it. My question to you is have you ever had the fuel filter replaced? A plugged fuel filter will starve a engine of needed fuel. Also when is the last time the air filter was replaced? Thats a couple of simple things to do b4 you start throwing expensive parts at it. Last... Ford does'nt use a vacuum modulator anymore, when people get this stuff blows me away! Any questions feel free to ask.

Check the easiest thing first. Change out the mass air flow sensor. When this sensor goes bad it confuses the brain into either starving the engine of fuel or flooding it out. The whole ecu goes nuts without showing any codes except the occasional multiple misfire and leftand or right bank too lean. No power means the tranning won't behave right.
If that don't do it then have the vaccum module checked out.

Another thing, may sound stupid, but I have seen this before. When this happens, do you have a low amount of fuel in the tank? It is one of those things that no one thinks about, but if it is steep enough, and the fuel is low enough, you may be running it out of fuel. Just something else to consider.
