If your car is a standard (not automatic) you can roll-start it. Here's how you do it:

Before you turn your car off, park it at the top of an incline/hill facing downhill. Make sure you engage the emergency brake.

When you go to turn it back on, put the car in second gear and let go of the emergency brake. Push the clutch pedal all the way in. At this point the car should start rolling downhill. As the car rolls downhill gathering speed, pop the clutch pedal. The car will start. Now you can drive away.

nothing free out there, and if your battery goes completely flat more than three times than it will be constantly going flat and not being able to charge all the way back up, unless it is a deep cycle which can go flat often and not be harmed. you will be looking for a new battery soon, and one from walmart for about $60 will be fine for years, thats what I use on all 9 of our cars. there is a car battery out there that has a "power reserve" that when the battery dies, you can press the switch and have enough power to start your car, then will charge both parts. there is also automatic cutoff switches that cut off the power if it drains to more than 10 volts. I have heard of putting distilled water in if the cells are dry but I have not had good luck with this on cheap batteries.

Don't think so. There are portable charging packs that charge up with electricity (Picture: http://www.amazon.com/Amico-HW-02-Portable-Starter-Compressor/dp/B00062I2XE ).

I've even seen versions of charges that you can simply plug into your cigarette lighter and it will slowly charge it. For some reason I'm even thinking I've seen where there is a version of where you plug one end into the cigarette lighter plug and you plug the other end into another cars' lighter plug. But that seems weired to me because the starter uses a lot of amps and it would seem the 20 amp fuse on the fuse box, for the cigarette lighter, would blow trying this, but I'm quite sure I've seen it though.

I have in a pinch once, taken another charged up battery I had lying around and jumping it directly off of that, without it being in another car.

The only likely home made version that could pheasibly work would be a AC to 13.6 volt DC convertor. I have one to use a mobile ham radio in my house, it works on car stereos for testing purposes too. I have a descent one that I got for 80.00 and its a descent amp rating, but only 25 amps. I don't think this thing could handle the massive amount of amps a car starter would need. But wondering if they might make a version with extreme amp output...?

Short of buying another car battery and carrying it round with you, no
(Plus there'd be no point cos you'd have to keep that battery topped up too)

would be better to just buy a new battery.. or fix the problem if it's not the battery.. most jump starters cost almost as much as a new battery.. good luck with that

yes but you got to find out why its not starting-if you left your lights on then your ok--by not using it for a bit it may recharge some-if acid leval low add water purified has no minerals to build up

if its a standard shift-roll it forward and let up the clutch in first gear at -at least 5 mph

if its a hydromatic-get it up to 30 mph from neutral and shift into 1st gear

in Jesus amazing grace with thanks
