I am restoring my 1971 Plymouth Duster. It's not a muscle car -- it's a slant-6 -- but it's cool. Lots of trunk space, places to hide beer (I've had the car since I was 16), you can sneak four people into a drive-in in the trunk. Some people think I'm stupid for spending $7,000 on a car like this, but new cars are way more expensive, impossible to repair and not very safe. What do you think and will I be able to get any chick I want with my restored Duster?

This is an actual picture of my car:

Come on now. Chick magnet. I doubt it. 7k I would put it in the bank earn some interest. Go buy something that will have a warranty on it. Not require everything be replaced in the next 3 years. That green is so ugly. What happened to the girl in the pic? Now maybe you will find some chicks stuck in the 70's that thinks it is cool. But modern day babes want comfort AC and a smooth ride. You could put the 7k down on a new mustang for all that matters and still have a low payment.

Additionally most people have no idea that once they put an oldie back on the road that you will never stop working on the car. Eventually the entire elctrical system will need to be redone harness and all. Entire drive train. Complete suspension. And so on and so on. If you want to restore a cool car you would be better off finding a datsun 240z and sinking money into that beast at least once you would be done it is cute, faster than a duster and holds value.

I would not spend 7K on a duster, you can restore it for alot less. I would get away from green paint. Paint it any other color, put some nice wheels on it, dual exhaust, or at least a flowmaster on your single exhaust and it will look pretty nice. As a chick magnet, I agree with madd scientist matt, more guys will pay attention to it, but chicks will like it cuz it looks like other muscle cars, it depends on the females, my wife loves muscle cars and she is not old at all. She wants a 69 camaro.... so restore it and have fun, you should be able to get at least 1 chick.... thats looks better than ellen degeneres!!

All I got to say is look at the chick Al Bundy landed with his slant six, green duster.

The Duster has classic lines. If you are not going to keep it original, then slam some HP under the hood. Make that baby move and growl. Chicks dig displacement. The vibes and the torque. I have met way to many "You need a big motor to make up for blah blah blah" chicks.. Set them in a real powerful, American Steel, V8 and drop the hammer... they are hooked for life baby.

There is no replacement for displacement!!!!!

While I am a dyed-in-the-wool, till-I-DIE chevy-man myself, the '71' Duster was a real chick magnet( my own sister would not go out with anyone who did not have a duster ,bimbo that she was. ), although, you really should dump the'6', change the 'k' frame, and drop in some serious oomph, say a 340-six-pack,or maybe even go for broke with a 383,or 440 magnum, with mopar performance goodies, and an awesome header/exhaust package. Man big dusters were COOL!

Any older Mopar is a chick magnet. Put the super 6 2 barrel on it and get som epower out of it or a 318 and make it a sleeper car. Bamma knows chicks so pick up the others and leave Bammas alone. That's a decent car. I'd keep it.

One truth I've learned about cars like that is that they'll attract more car guys than they attract women. Yes, I've had girls say they like my Dodge Dart - I've also gotten compliments on cars one wouldn't expect, like an Isuzu Amigo. Charm is a more reliable way to attract women.

I'd dispute if it is actually safer than a modern car. At least, unlike my Dart, it should have shoulder seatbelts.

Still, that is a pretty nice Duster. But you should restore it because you like the car. And women will be attracted to you if you're happy with your life.

take out that 6cyl. and put in a 440 and a set of nice wheels and wide tires and get rid of that green color and you might have a chick magnet.
