the fuel pump needs to be replaced is there an alternative way to fix it like attaching an inexpensive electric pump somewhere on the line instead of removing the tank and replacing the pump ?
the cost of a new pump for that little crap car is 500.00 installed.

Replacing the pump in the tank is a simple job.I would not put a inline pump on the car.You will be making it unsafe and may cause a fire .I seen this happen and the people lost the whole thing and their Ins. Co. would not pay to fix it because they made it unsafe .Call different shops and take the best price. The pump may not be cheap but it's cheaper than buying a new car.If you have kids I hope this changes your mine with using a inline pump.

$ 500.00 rip off.
this may be a long shot, but, at one time. Datsun had a type of fuel pump that mounted on the inside of the engine compartment.

ask a round. If you can find an external pump, it must be able to pull the fuel out of the tank, through the one already in there, and at a sufficent pressure to keep the fuel rail fed.

I wish you well, this one is not going to be simple

i can tell a way to change the pump,and you wont have to drop the tank,if you dont mind doing it.find the location of the sending unit(its probably about under the back seat,or in the trunk).once you find the location,cut a flap in the floor board and bend it away,so you can get into the unit,and change it.after you get it changed,put the flap back over the hole and seal around it.i know a guy did that once,but some might not want to do that.but it works,and whenever you need to change the pump,you dont have to drop the tank.

Actually, that is reasonable. - compare it to other vehicles! A newer Sunfire costs $900+ just for the part. An older vehicle is going to require repairs periodically - deal with it. It's cheaper than a new car payment!

you gotta pull the old one, but you can buy from www.jegs.com a racing pump for 100 bucks, it is a MSD pump and puts out 100 psi your regulator takes care of that, just mount it on your frame somewhere ( or body ) it is noisey that is for sure, but most racing pumps are, I put one on my jeep and my Diahatsu Rocky,, they run better than they ever did,
