is there an alternative if your engine is slugged than getting a new engine?

You can get a used one from a recycler (junk yard) . They sometimes have low mileage engines from wrecks and most warranty the engine.

You can have it re-built..... but that might runa s much as a new one, but most of the time it dosent. Or you can goto a garage and they can put a used engine in, they come with a 30 day warranty, my sister has doen that and it worked out well.

yea,get yourself a quart of kerosene and put it in the engine and start it up and let it run about 5 minutes,then drain the oil.if your engine is sludged up very much,you might have to drop the oil pan and clean it out.make sure you change the oil and filter.
