the bottom end of my engine is damaged beyond repair it is the common rail diesel (electronic injection,twin cam) can i rebuild it with a early block, if not can i put an early engine in it (not common rail) would this effect the ECU unit

Hi there, I work for a Nissan dealership and we sell these type of vans as Interstars and the engines you have mentioned are not interchangeable and the common rail type injectors are controlled electronically, the earlier type are controlled by the distibution type injection pump, the engine harness from your van could be made to fit an older type engine but it may end up costing you more for the conversion than it would to buy a block for your engine.

the way that modern diesel engines are progressing idoubt the two will marry.. and i doubt if the gear box bell housing will marry with an older unit .and it would affect the ecu unit . i would not bother to find out what Renault think as they are pretty us less especially around Coventry
