I'm changing the harmonic balancer on my 76 GMC Jimmy 4x4. the one that the place gave me is smaller than the one that was originally on the motor. won't this screw up the motor?

i have a 2003 hyundai accent. it is automatic with 35k miles. no mechanical problems. however, i noticed today that i got a 'check engine ' message on the dashboard today. there are no noises and the car has all necessary fluids, (oil, coolant, transmission etc).

the car starts and runs fine as usual. any suggestion on why i have the check engine light and how i can turn it off.

i will get a tune up soon (new spark plugs, air filter etc) but i dont think a need for a tune up would give me the check engine lightt.

thanks

I know, I know, FORD="Fix or Repair Daily" or "Found on Road Dead"---but that's the thing. I lost my brakes the other day, on a major highway's construction zone. Scariest thing to ever happen to me. Somehow, "glided" my way to the repair shop near my work where I usually take my car, and they told me that my brake lines were all rotted out, excpept for the one by the front passenger wheel. I could have been killed!! This is a 96 Ford Taurus GL, originally bought brand new from my dad who kept up the maintenance like clockwork. He practically gave it to me, as I was having tons of trouble with my previous car and had to sell it to unsuspecting Carmax. Anyway, this place told me that they had to MAKE the brake lines, and the labor alone would be about $640 at $80 an hour. (I live near NYC-everything is much more expensive here.) They told me Ford doesn't make them anymore since it was a 10 year old car. Does this sound right?

I chose either one because you both seem to know your cars. I have an 85 buick somerset regal ltd. I can drive it for one or two trips and it will run fine on the freeway, but not around town. After that, it acts as if its overheating. It stumbles, sputters and stalls out all the time. I have replaced fuel filter, egr valve, cleaned TB, tune up, even repaired faulty ground conn to battery, TPS. Car has a 3.0 w/ elec ign, so timing isn't adjbl. Also if I can get on the freeway and get some air to it, runs fine. Hesitation when throttle is applied. doesn't overheat (digital gauges) and fan is working properly. Coolant recently changed. Thermostat not changed. Possibly reset min idle speed and how? Can't seem to figure this one out any help is greatly appreciated

The orignal pads have a spring like clamp on both pads, the new ones have a lip that makes it impossible to fit properly. Have changed pads b4 but this new style has me baffled as to fitting it.
