First of all. Honda, Toyota, Hunydai and maybe a few other Japanses car manufactures may build cars and some trucks here, BUT ALL the parts and profits are returned to Japan so that is NOT helping our North American economy.
AND because I do not like Honda's or Toyota's. I'm a Auto tech by trade and I repair way to many of those vehicles. I do not care for timing belt engines, noisey interior's when driving down the highway, uncomfortable seats, feels like your in a very unsafe box. I feel safer on my motorcycle lane splitting thru all those cagers stuck in traffic jams.
When I do drive one of my cars or trucks, It sure isn't japanese made. I do however own a few japanses Motorcycles

Because in AMERICA, people have freedom of choice, even though the Jap companies are building here, the major money goes to Japans economy. Just because they build it here means nothing, where are the parts coming from. Remeber auto 101 the auto manufacturers only assemble they don't make every part some are US most are foreign. Harley for example has over 60% out of country manufactured parts...The alledged US car companies have had plants in Mexico for Decades, where have you been.

If you have a need for speed, then buy a Corvette. They are made in Bowling Green Kentucky.
By the way, Toyota and Honda's are assembled in the US msotly from imported parts. Even the engine and transmission plants parts come from out of the country.

Actually, blame the UAW and other unions. The American car cos have to go out of the country to get away from unionized labor. And the Japanese typically locate their plants in the southern US, where unions are weaker or non-existant.
Using non-union labor keeps the vehicle cost down. I don't know how the japs get away with it, but they do. And I drive an american pickup cuz thats what I want to drive. Forget that riceburner buzzbomb crap. LOL......

It isn't always about keeping jobs in America for Unionized job force who take it for granted that they are at the assembler's plant for a paycheck (as opposed to a productive job)
For many it is a matter of I DON'T FIT IN THE COTTON PICKIN' THINGS!! Most of them are not much more than a vest. Get in, roll the windows down, zip it up and hang out both sides. If it has a roof, it keeps my glasses dry but other than that, they don't have the power necessary to get me and my tools around without getting hit.

I bought an Audi, and it saved my life -- someone drove into my driver's door at 50 mph. I'm not sure if I'd still be here if I'd been driving a Toyota or Honda.

What the hell does that have to do with the cars? Don't forget Mercedes and Hyundai also build cars here.
