It depends on the year and ignition type on the vehicle. The first few years were .035. Then they went to .045 for a few years. From there they went up to .054. Currently I believe they are around .058.
Check under the hood on the emissions sticker. It is located either on the underside of the hood, on the strut post, (where the shock bolts up to), on the fan shroud. On the earliest 302s it was on the side of the air filter housing, or on the side of the valve cover. On the lower left hand corner on the sticker, in small letters, the spark plug gap is printed. That is the best way to find out the gap. If it is a transplanted engine you will have to find out the year of the motor and call a parts store and ask.

Open the hood. Locate the Vehicle Emissions Control Information (VECI) label. It will be on the air filter housing, or on the underside of the hood, or possibly on the radiator support (rare). It has the information necessary for a tune-up and emissions inspection listed on it. Included in the information (in fine print) is the factory recommended plug gap, and the specifications for the ignition timing, along with the instructions for adjusting the BASE ignition timing.
Good Luck
