I assume that you are speaking of the A/C compressor. That with arts and labor should be somewhere $350.00 to $550.00, depending on the compressor design and manufacturer and what other related parts (e.g. expansion tube, filter/drier, hoses, belts, etc.) will be required.
If given the choice, opt for the NEW compressor rather than a rebuilt. It will have a lower failure rate and a longer warranty, and the difference in cost is insignificant in the long run.

I just paid $1000.00 for a new one in a 1988 Plymouth.
