Maintenance & Repairs - September 2006

I have a 96 Chev. Lumina. Today it didnt want to start, but after a few minutes of trying, it eventually did. There is power to the lights/radio, so the battery is ok. I dont think its the alternator because I had that replaced about a year ago. From what I can gather, it might be the starter? How should I go about fixing this? Can I do it myself or should I just take it in? Thanks, I know so little about all this. :)

on this solenoid there are two letters and two posts when you turn key on wipers work but wont start and it has a new starter its difficult because i dont know where coil wire should go or how it should be hooked up same with ground and positive cables to battery but the coil gets hot when key is on also .

I have no defrost. I am hoping someone may guide me to a flow chart of sorts. I have some very good responses to my basic Q and want to try and find something vivid to respond on resolving my problem.
My basic thought is there should be a way,what with the year and model-make of my car. It doesn't seem reasonable that there is not an alternate available.

the car is stock , I can't figure it out Put a new Oxygen sensor in last year. New fuel pump also. When new plugs are put in it runs perfect no skipping runs smooth. Thought it may be timing but it would do the same thing even with new plugs

had the car fixed about a year ago and my buddy said that the turbo could be bad due to the loud noise if i find out it is bad how much does it cost to fix or get a new one and also it does have different power level when driving but i live in michigan and i think a lot of it is due to weather and the cold also before my buddy fixed it i took it to the vw dealership and they ran it through there computer had a print out and they never said anything about a bad turbo and drove it said there was nothing major wrong and my buddy only changed the belt and cleaned the engine oil build up

My quad bogs down when I hit the gas. It idles fine. Its a 4 stroke and I just changed the air fitler and the spark plug I drained the gas and added new. And there is no screws on my carb to adjust. Does anyone know what it could be??

The drive shaft turns when it is in 4x and doesn't turn when its in 2w drive. So there seems to be power going to the front when the 4x is engaged. But the wheels aren't getting power. The unit had been sitting for about 3 years, could the auto hubs be fouled up with corosion causing them to stick and not engage? The unit has a standard transmission. I have no experience with 4x4's, maybe I am not engaging the 4x properly? If anyone has any experience with these vehicles I would sure like to hear from you. Thanks

I have a 1993 VW POLO (K) 1.0. It is 'pinking' and my friend said he would adjust the timing. But when he looked at it, he couldn't locate the 'screw' to adjust it anywhere! Any ideas please where it could be? He has done this before on his others cars, but cannot see it at all!

Hey all! I've got a 1996 Cavalier with 150K miles on it. It's not getting the best mileage it could . . . I've heard of similar cars getting 30 MPG or so, and I'm getting closer to 22-25 MPG.

Do you think I can get my mileage back up there, or do you just lose alot as your engine ages?

I replaced the spark plugs (which were gapped very poorly from the previous owner) and front oxygen sensor, so this should help some. What else can I do to get my mileage back up where it should be?
