The issue is that Toyota corollas and the Matrix both use the unibar or solid axle in the rear, which creates a very jerky, bumpy, unpleasant ride. Toyota says it changed to the solid axle to keep the cost of these models low. Dumb choice! I don't want to buy a new Corolla if i have to deal with this cheapo axle-- it ruins the ride. But I am wondering if I can buy a Corolla with the intention of having a mechanic simply replacing it with the superior independant rear suspension, or if this will be too difficult and/or costly.

Hi,
I've read other posts from people who mention their cars make a ticking sound but haven't seen one with a situation quite like mine.
My car has been making a ticking sound for a while, only occasionally, which can sometimes be heard while the engine is on although the noise of car usually drowns it out, but today I heard it for the first time after turning off the engine. It's different to the ticking and creaking noises I hear because the car is cooling down (faster). Also, it seemed more pronounced INSIDE the car. My question is do you know what it could be and is it likely to be serious? I can get it checked at a garage but I'm taking the car away next week and want to know that it will be safe and can put off a check up/repair until after. (Car is Nissan Micra, 1994)
Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I want to install a set flowmaster exhausts on my Crown Vic. I know the passenger side uses the dimensions Offset Inlet / Center Outlet. And I guess the driver side uses Opposite Side Offset Inlet / Center Outlet, if thats what that measurement is called. Does anyone know if I can use Offset Inlet / Center Outlet for the driver's side if I overturn the muffler? Is it ok to install it overturned?

I need to know because I don't want to purchase from the local shop. They are charging a fortune. On eBay they're cheap.

Any suggestions would help.

Thanks.

George.

We can't tell from looking at the top of the lifter thru the opening in the head. If we find they are solid lifters, anyone care to guess at the setting. Thank you.

Hi, I have got condinsation in my front passenger headlight, I wondered if anyone knows the easiest way of drying it out. the Headlight is not to be removed from the car and please note that the hair-dryer trick wont work in this case. I have left the back off but its just not drying out (and you cant get a cloth in due to the design of the light). is there a product out there that can soke up the dampness ? Cheers

My Mates Polo is having some problems with the engine. it runs fine except when you get it up to the higher speeds and higher rev's the engine seems to hit a limiter which shouldn't be there. I'm thinking it could be the coil or maybe the HT leads. But has anyone got some other ideas. Many Thanks

The problem is the clutch. As I let out the pedal it engages sometimes near the floorboard and at other times it engages when the pedal is nearly out all the way. I replaced the clutch actuator near the floorboard but the problem persists. Where else could the problem be?

On top it's called an upper control arm. Not sure what bolt on bottom is called. It's at the very bottom of spindle. From I guess what might be called the A fram to the spindle, keeps tire from just flopping over.

I am very interrested in restoring an older vehicle. I do motor Mechanics only as a hobby and is a novice at it. Which make of car is a good one to start with ? I like Alfa Romeo's but are scared that they may be more for experienced restorers. What about a VW Beetle, Mini or Fiat 131. Any suggestions on vehicles, names of books and Wesites that may assist me ??

First,off, I have a Toyota Corolla 98.
My passenger side window stopped working. I took it to the shop and got the "burned out" motor replaced and they said I also needed to buy a new "master switch" from a dealer. They said something about there was too much current or electricity going to the passenger side motor (they ran it through many electric tests).

Is this possible or is it BS? I haven't bought the switch yet, I'm still looking online ($241 @ dealer, $181 so far on various sites)

My driver's side door lock stopped working a while back. I finally decided to have it fixed while the dealership mechanic was performing some recall repairs. They gave me an initial estimate of $85 for repairing the lock. A few hours later, they called to tell me that they needed to replace the mechanism, and the part would arrive the next day. They told me the part would be an additional $118 on top of the original $85 labor charge, which I would be charged anyway, so I authorized that amount and they did the repair. When I went to pick up the car, I was being charged about $300!!! They didn't inform me about any other charges over the phone, but on the invoice I had a labor charge of $170! My question is, are they allowed to do this? I never would have authorized this amount because the car isn't worth much anyway. I feel like I was raped for an extra hundred bucks. I will never have work done at a dealership ever again!
