Febreeze is good to use as long as the upholstery is fabric and not leather. I would use that on a nice day and then leave the car windows and/or doors open for a while.
After that I would put a box of baking soda in the car. They make some specifically for absorbing order where the sides of the box tear off and have a fine mesh that holds in the baking soda but allows air to enter. It works very well. I just keep one under the passenger seat of the car always.
Replacing the cabin air filter might help too. It's pretty easy (often it is just behind the glove box) and cheap.

Febreze that has been on the market for a while now is advertised as doing this well in a house (as well as eliminating the smell of pets) so a car shouldn't be too much different. With a car, you not only have the upholstery to be concerned with but also the AC filters which may take a bit longer to "de-smoke". Check your local auto supply dealer and see if they have any car-cigarette-smoke-specific products.

You can perfume the heck out of the car. However professional detailers and used-car resellers say there is always a lingering stink from cigarettes that never goes away.

Take a wet soapy towel and wipe every where, door panels, headliner, carpet, windows and dash. If you get it really wet use a wet/dry shop vacuum. Then spray with a car freshener of your choice.
