Whether side terminals or top ones they are covered by a soft or hard plastic shield.

As you need to replace battery(and I hope you have checked out both battery AND charging system) then the place you purchase battery can probably check both and replace battery(if needed) for free... as they make the money off the battery and your good will.

When terminals are off look at the part normally covered. Should be bright shiny metal. Replacement battery should have post contact areas bright and shiny(usually aren't as the battery been in storage... insure manufacture date of battery relatively new...)

Battery brush $5 or less and will be best investment made...
cables should be in good repair- no corrosion loose connectors loose wires. Battery cables should not be moveable by hand(terminal where clamped to battery) Careful as easily stripped... especially side terminals.

So let the battery guy do it and make sure he uses clean brush(hence your new brush)... if relatively clean one swipe does it. And yes with electric connections cleanliness is next to Godliness! Good luck.

There is probably plastic covers over the battery bolts, if this is the original battery. Pop those off to uncover the battery bolts. The best way to remove the battery bolts is to use a side post battery wrench. You can get one at just about any auto parts store. It is a little 5/16 ratcheting wrench and they are a lot easier to use then an end wrench or a socket, and it won't round off the heads of the bolt. A the bottom of the battery is a rubber hold down. You will need a 13mm socket and a long extension to take the bolt that holds it in off. The battery, probably a group 75, should lift right out. Remember, for safety, ALWAYS remove the negative post first, and replace the negative post last.

Doesn't this year chevy have the side mount terminals with the tiny headed bolts? They suck and are easy to strip.

Use a 1/4" 6 point socket or a box end wrench to loosen the bolts and prevent damage.

There's a cover on the pos. cable , peel it back.
Use a 8mm or 5/16 wrench to loosen the bolts.
Use a long extension to reach the hold down bolt ,which is a 1/2 in. socket. Remove it ,then try to remove the battery.
If you still can't get it out call a real man. !!!
