I am very interrested in restoring an older vehicle. I do motor Mechanics only as a hobby and is a novice at it. Which make of car is a good one to start with ? I like Alfa Romeo's but are scared that they may be more for experienced restorers. What about a VW Beetle, Mini or Fiat 131. Any suggestions on vehicles, names of books and Wesites that may assist me ??

Now I'm only 15, and I would LOVE to restore a car because of my passion for cars... but really, go with what you like.. just researh a little bit here and there I think you might be fine. Like if you want that Alfa (I know I do, I love Alfas), just go find one and try to find other people with that car and ask questions, etc. I think if you really take your time and research it right, it might come out just right ;)

Good luck!!

VW's are certainly very easy to work on. If you get one of those, may I suggest getting a copy of "How to Keep Your Volkswagen Alive" by John Muir? Highly recommended, and this book starts out assuming you know nothing about cars.

Several things I have learned about restoring cars from personal experience.

#1. Get a car with no rust. Trust me, this will make things much easier! Ideally, get one with no body damage whatsoever.

#2. If at all possible, get one with all the trim and interior pieces there. You'll spend a lot of time tracking those down if you don't.

A volkswagon is very easy to do and very easy to get parts for.
Have you considered the VW Karmann Ghia?
