Maintenance & Repairs - July 2006

Every time my car goes to the garage to have a service, the techies advise me that I should have more work done on it - the latest is that my brake discs are very worn.

It may well be the case, as the last set were put on many '000s of miles ago. But how can I tell? What should I look for? At the moment, they look shiny and nice... but that doesn't necessarily mean anything!

My exhaust pipe is becoming loose- when I start the engine I can hear it rattling. Is it a difficult job to tighten it up? How much should I be expecting to pay to get the work done? Or is it easy to do myself (without a pit)?

I have a 2004 Honda Civic and according to my uncle I should only fuel my car with regular unleaded if I am really broke since that type of gas contains more water and ruins the engine faster.

We drive a 2000 Mazda Protege and about a week ago we noticed a quiet "creak" when the steering wheel is turned. It sounds like a creaky old door. The creaky noise is getting louder and louder and the steering wheel is harder to turn. Could it be the steering rods? the power steering pump? will a powersteering fluid flush do the trick?? HELP!! we are mere starving students and cannot afford a big repair bill.

From rims? The rust is really not that bad. Someone said to use like SOS pads. Even went to a part store, and they said they didn't have anything that was to great. Any ideas?

It has a frione leak. I bought the bottle of refrigerant at Autozone, and put it in properly, and it stays cold for about 3 weeks. Then it runs out, and I have to buy a new 22.00 bottle every 3 weeks.
(please don't say "Take it to a mechanic." I can barely afford the can of refrigerant!)

I do not know how to fix it, or how to find out how to fix it. I would like to find a DIAGRAM or SOMETHING THAT WOULD HELP. Please if you know how to fix it, answer ASAP

it's a 90 eagle talon turbo charge and after i drive it, coolant bubbles up out of the overflow tank onto the ground. The temperature never rises past normal, and never has since I had the engine replaced with this new one, I also had a pro shop build it and drop it in my car for me. Head gasket maybe? It's new! Maybe it's the cylinder head? It's also new and so is the block. I was told that maybe the head gasket bolts need to be retorqued.

Why do people put spoilers on front wheel drive imports? Any why oh why do they get the most retarted looking ones?!? Some look like an easter basket on wheels. It has absolutely no funtion. I just want to know why? I'd rather spend the money on suspension .
