Synthetic is good if you do not change your oil as often or as regularly as you should. But if you are consistenly changing your oil every 3000 miles or less, synthetic oil does not have any added benefits.

It's probably the same, but synthetic seems to be more slippery, so it might make your engine last a little longer.
I think it's just important to change it every 3000 miles, and if you drive so much that you wind up with 3000 too quick, then maybe you want synthetic so you can do 5000 miles between oil changes.

I just sold my 1987 Chevy van that I ran synthetic oil in and changed every 3-5thousand miles. It was running great still and it had just over 300 thousand miles on it.

Synthetic based oil, like Castrol Oil, is far better, and it protects your engine too.

Use Synthetic if you have a newer vehicle. Petro based for older cars.
I prefer Synthetic.

I've been driving for 30 years and never had any oil related problems with an engine using regular oil, If I had a real expensive car or a racing engine, I might use it.

Synthetic, but once you use it you can never use the other stuff again. Kind of like drinking Crystal, you can never go back to Rossi.
