Typical Yahoo! idiotic responses to a simple question. This person simply asked how to jump-start a car with a weak battery. You all are trying to kill him. First make sure the good car is shut off. Also, and this one is extremely important, make sure that if it has caps, the dead battery has enough water in it. Water must completely cover the lead plates in the battery or it may explode when you try to start the car. Open the hoods of both cars, Connect the red clamps to the positive battery terminals of both cars, which are marked with a +. Don't guess at this, look at the batteries. Make sure you get this part right or you can cause a lot of damage to yourself and the cars. Then connect the black clamps to bare (unpainted) metal parts under the hood of both cars away from the batteries. Brackets or bolts work well. NOT the battery terminals. Batteries create explosive gas when they are charging, and a spark can set off an explosion. Make sure the cables are clear of the fan and belts. Get everyone away from under the hoods of both cars. Batteries explode, and you do not want them near you when they do. Start the good car, let it run for a few minutes to charge the dead battery, then try to start the dead car. As soon as it starts, remove the cables from the weak car, then from the good car. Do not under any circumstances let the clamps touch each other or any part of the car. Do not attach battery cables to cars that are running. There are too many things under the hood that can hurt you if you get caught in them.

Start up the car with a good battery. Then, pop the hood, and connect the jumper cable between the two cars.
Start up the car with a dead battery while revving the engine in the car you already turned on.
Revving the engine will cause the good car's alternator to generate more power and should help start the second car.
If you happen to be trying to start up a manual transmission car, you can always start it up by putting the key into the ignition and turning it to "on". Then, place the car in 2nd gear, hold the clutch down, and ask a friend (or two) to push the car. When the car is moving at a decent speed, release the clutch (slowly) while giving the car some gas.
When you get the car to turn on (regardless of how you do it) keep it running for a while... and drive it. This will allow the alternator to charge the car's battery. If your battery doesn't hold a charge your alternator or battery may need to be replaced.
Good luck!

The proper way to connect jumper cables between two cars is to first connect the positive (red) clamp and negative (black) clamp to the battery that is weak and then connect the other positive (red) clamp to the good battery and last connect the negative (black) clamp to the good battery. In the case where both battery cables on either car are the same color, the battery will have a + for positive and a - for negative. It is important to connect the negative cable to the good battery last to prevent any possibility of sparks that could cause an explosion! (Yes, batteries can explode under certain conditions!!!)

if it's a shift stick...put it in third gear and get your Buddy's to give you a push....when rolling at reasonable speed ...let go of the clutch and it should start......
or....get a friend to drop over with his car start that car put a pair of wires( they sell wires with clams in gas stations) to your battery and start it like it had it's own battery....
u don't want to buy wires? just take off the battery and change it with your Friend's once you start the car change it back... keep the engine running for a while or go for a spin this will recharge your battery.

on the bad battery connect the cables to the positive term....then.....negative clamp to any exposed metal on the engine.
connect to the good battery....FIRST the negative to the neg.....
then to the pos term.
there may be small sparks as you connect.....but all is well...
make sure all electrical things are offon both cars.....
then start the good.....wait 5min then try the bad....
Hope this helps

If it is standard, you can push it by hand (especially down a hill) while the driver tries to throw it into gear. This works because the alternator moves when the wheels do, so moving the car generates electrical charge.
