Starter solenoid clicks when there is high resistance or the battery is low. Your solenoid is tied to the starter so looks like a new starter could be needed but have a trusted mechanic check it first.- an easy way to check the battery is to go to a walmart or other such store that carries a small inexpensive volt meter and place it on the battery and if the reading is something less than 12.4 volts it may be the battery. Have it tested first. By starting the car you should have an increased voltage around 14. volts or so showing your alternator is working properly. Most auto supply stores will check your battery for free ; however you will need to to remove it and take it in.
In my area Pep Boys, Autozone ,Car Quest and Napa Auto will check your battery free . The most common cause of battery problems would be a bad battery conection which is easily cleaned with a battery terminal wire brush which are cheap compared to a mechanic's charges try that first.

Most likely the starter is going bad. However a week battery or alternator could cause the problem also. if you have a unsealed battery ( 2 caps that you can take off on top of battery ) when u open these caps there will be 3 holes to the left and 3 holes to the right you need to check the fluid level. if the holes are not a half inch from the top full with h20 you need to add h20 to each hole. In other words if the holes are empty fill them up a half inch but do not overfill them. Please wear safety goggles as battery's are very corrosive. If you continue to start the car and you keep hearing the clicking another simple thing to check is look at your cables hooked to battery if you see any kind of white or yellow powder around or on the cables hooked to the battery you may need new cables or new battery terminals. You can clean the terminals with sand paper by simply scratching of the powder. If its clicking its either the starter or battery and most likely would not be an alternator problem. Good luck with your car

You battery both has a lifeless cellular, or something is operating it down even as the engine is off. Get a clean battery and be certain tochronic lengthy adequate for it to totally charge and be conscious the outcomes the subsequent day. even if it continues to be charged up, you're in company, if no longer seek for shorts contained in the wiring, undesirable alternator, stuck relay, etc. ninety 9% of the time it really is a foul battery.

Dont be too hasty to replace parts here! It is probably a corroded or loose battery or ground cable! Dont use cola either! Use a couple tablespoons of baking soda in about 2 cups of water to clean the corrosion. After cleaning them apply a thin coat of petroleum jelly to the battery posts.

To be truthful, you have not provided enough information to maximize your chances of getting the best responses. Based on the limited information you gave, either your battery is losing its charge or your starter solenoid is starting to go bad. If it happens again, please take the vehicle to a reputable mechanic and describe everything that led up to the "clicking" event, including what it sounded like.

I'm not a mechanic, but I'm guessing it could be the alternator. Or as already mentioned, the starter may be on the brink of not working.

Humm.. its either you battery cables need to be cleaned by pouring cola on the cables cause of the acid in the cola. Also, you may need to get your starter rewired or rebuilt.

either the starter is bad, or the battery is weak. Sounds more like the starter is acting up on you.
