Basically, I just did a compression test and all but 1 of my cylinders falls between 150-165. The #6 cylinder is at 145psi. What would a brand new model of this engine run at, and what should a typical engine of this model run at with my type of mileage. I'm just trying to guage the market and see if the engine in my burb is doing better or worse than other burbs of the same year/mileage.

I need info reguarding engine, tranny, rearend, transfer case, etc. I have an '04 Silverado 2500HD 6.0L, 4 spd A/T, P/B 4x4, 4.10 gears, 4l80e tranny. I do not understand all that I read, for ex. I have no idea if my engine is a LS1-LS2-LS3-LS6-LS7 and what is the difference between those and an LQ4. I only know it is a Vortec. Is it TBI or TPI. Does it have an aluminum block or heads, or is it all cast iron. I would like to know this so I know what to look for and what I can do when start to upgrade the performance. I have heard that adding an aluminum head to the 6.0 can push HP close to 400, but given the SS has an aluminum head, could I use head from it? Can I use parts from other engines on mine???

When I am accelerating it starts to pop and sounds kinda like its stalling out but it doesnt, also when I am at a consant speed it also does that. Now when I even start it up I just stalls out and right when I go to start it up, the starter is brand new and I can hear it trying to kick over but it just wont start up. I just had it fixed and my mechanic can't figure out why it is making as he calls it popping. Please help!

Does it have to do with structural integrity or airflow management? What would happen if an owner removed them.

...for racing. I got two of em, one bored sixty over with no core shift, align bored with steel splayed main caps. I was gonna use the stock crank(10/10 & steel!) with H beam PF steel rods & KB hyperutectic pistons for a 412 ci package. I'm thinking now of a stroker in the range of 427+ ci. Problems seem to center on the small base camshaft & rod bolt clearance which can be accomadated, barely! My question is the durability of the 400 block bored to this tolerance. When a higher compresion like 13:1+ Mahle pistons is considered, FF H beam rods NOS & 8000 RPM my concern is block fatigue. Even if I fill the lower part of the water jackets with block filler a combo like this may well tweak the block & my wallet. I got a hot deal on it as the block was free as well the machine work. Problem is a GM rocket block or after market block will be consideribly stronger, & cam & block clearance problems are gone, plus even bigger ci combos. Cost shoots to the moon also!!! Comments welcomed!

I have a '54 Chevrolet Del-Ray that I bought for $3,100 and I have put a little work into it, but it is taking up too much space and I have to get rid of it. The engine is a 235 6 cylinder with 67,000 original miles and it runs (fairly, but it runs) The body was re-painted to original color and is flawless. The stainless trim is a little banged up and needs repair, but there is almost no rust on it because it was garaged all these years. The only rust it has is a few small spots in the trunk. There is no carpeting and the upholstery needs completely replaced, which I was quoted $1,100 to fix. Other then what I have mentioned, the car is in great shape. I have whitewall tires with good tread and 4 extra new tires. I don't know where to look to get an accurate appraisel for it and I don't want to be ripped off.

my truck will not start unless I prime it with gas every time first....once I do that it runs great. It doesnt need a fuel pump or fuel filter....could the ECM be bad maybe? Someone tried to tell me that it could need the fuel injectors replaced....but I dont believe that is the problem....wouldnt it not even run if they were bad? I took it to a shop who tried to tell me the fuel injectors were plugged up and charged me $130 to flush them....and the problem still exists. My Chilton manual tells me that the Electronic control module tells the injectors to squirt the fuel upon starting so if it were bad couldnt that be my problem??? Please advise....!!!

I have a 1998 Chevrolet S10 rear wheel drive with drum brakes on the rear and disc in front. My truck recently failed inspection because I put the rear shoe in the front and the front shoe in the rear the mechanic said. I have taken off my shoes and I can't tell the difference. And I didn't take a picture before removing them. How can you tell which shoe belongs where since they will go on backwards (I assumed they would only go on one way)?
