my truck will not start unless I prime it with gas every time first....once I do that it runs great. It doesnt need a fuel pump or fuel filter....could the ECM be bad maybe? Someone tried to tell me that it could need the fuel injectors replaced....but I dont believe that is the problem....wouldnt it not even run if they were bad? I took it to a shop who tried to tell me the fuel injectors were plugged up and charged me $130 to flush them....and the problem still exists. My Chilton manual tells me that the Electronic control module tells the injectors to squirt the fuel upon starting so if it were bad couldnt that be my problem??? Please advise....!!!

Can't believe the mechanic didn't fix it; a person should be able to go back and say 'you were wrong' and fix it free! But alas, no,so hubby says could be ecm for sure, but do you hear the fuel pump kick on when ignition is turned to 'on' position? Mine went out in my 91 blazer. Pump may not initially have the pressure in inject gas, but once it's started, there's enough to keep it running. ECM is usually located under the hood along wheel well. Chilton book should show you diagram of instruments under the hood. Good luck! Hope you get it fixed soon. I was stranded in a small town bar while local mechanic replaced my fuel pump and cost me around $300!

If you have to prime your engine to start, you need a fuel pump, the best way to verify this is to test the fuel pressure, it should be around 60 psi
+ - 5 psi.
The reason I think this is the problem is your fuel pump will run for a few seconds as soon as you turn the key on, thus priming your fuel system
Check the fuel pump relay fuse and the relay before you do anything else, they are both located in the fuse panel under the hood.

pull the distributor cap off. It is the black piece plugged into the dist. I am having the same problem with my 85 Chevy truck. I have replaced EVERYTHING under the hood that has to deal with starting, from spark plugs all the way to the ignition. I have spark plugs not injectors.

Take out the passenger area glove compartment and look at the back of it. it will be the two there or around at the back of the passenger area kick panel placed to the appropriate of the floorboard adjoining to the passenger area door.
