The main aesthetic change (in cathedrals) was the increased and improved use of stained glass, because the flying buttress is half an arch light can pass through the gap, prolonging the time that sunlight would reach each window, they give the building a delicate, fragile appearance.

The light gray plastic body cladding was used on the avalance for looks. The newer ones can be ordered from the factory without this cladding. You should not remove the cladding from your truck because it will lower the resale of the truck and harm the paint finish.Hope this helps. The cladding can be cleaned with plastic cleaner from you local auto parts store.

Mainly for looks. Doesn't it make it look unique? You could remove them but they are also attached to where the 3rd brake light is mounted. The light is mounted to the panel that is bolted to the roof. It would look kinda funny with just the roof panel in place.

They put them there for aesthetics only. Without them the truck design would have an unbalanced appearance. Removing them would do no harm, but personally I would just sell the truck instead.

Only the GM designers know why. My guess is structural.

I think they are on there for looks only, I'm not positive about that.
