!st off, before you do anything else, check the fluid again, is it red like it's supposed to be or is it black? next, does it smell burnt? If no to both of these questons, then I would take down the oil pan and replace the filter and oil. If you said yes to the questons, then you have one or more burnt clutch plates, I'm assuming you have an auto trans. I recently overhaul a Pontiac trans and the part can to $150.00, I took my time on it, getting trans out and overhauling, and reinstalling was about 8 hours, and I did stop for lunch. So this is not a panic problem. Give me some more info and I'll try to help you out better. okay.

If an automatic trans, I would look closely at the transmission mounts themselves. If the trans is missing mounting hardware, or the mounts themselves, that would certainly do it. Also check for faulty linkage adjustment.
If a manual trans., it would indicate worn synchro rings between the gear sets. Good luck.

Auto or manual trans? Probably the shifter linkage or detents are worn to where the shifter can pop out of gear too easily. For auto column shift...You should have to pull the shift lever back to move it from one position to the next...if you can move it without pulling the shifter, the column detent plate is worn. Auto column shift---detents are in the column and trans...manual trans has no detent but blocking rings or synchro's may be bad.
